The Emergency Clinical Hospital for
Children “Grigore Alexandrescu,”
Romania’s oldest children’s hospital,
held it’s 5th WBW celebration.
Over 100 people – mothers, family
members and medical staff –
attended the full day event aimed at
making everyone aware of his/her
role in promoting and supporting

a “transmarathon” to raise money for
newborn babies and the environment,

The Fairfax County WIC
Breastfeeding Team hosted
a WIC Mom’s Milk Building
Workshop to help mothers
with common barriers
related to pumping and
maintaining milk supply.
The fun, relaxing event was
filled with healthy foods,
shoulder massages,
movies, a raffle, information
and support.

22 breastfeeding mothers in Moscow gathered in Gorki Park to
celebrate WBW. It was an enjoyable day with many
breastfeeding babies from 0 to 3 years of age.

SAS Health Care Center celebrated 2013 World
Breastfeeding Week by thanking the SAS onsite daycare
staff for their support of breastfeeding families.

Black Creek Community Health Centre celebrated with certificates
and gifts for their staff and BFI committee. The festivities for the
mothers in their breastfeeding support group included cake, games
and certificates.
Alexandria, Virginia, USA The Alexandria Health Department’s Breastfeeding Promotion
Committee hosted a breastfeeding informational booth focusing
on the importance of peer support at the Old Town Farmer’s
Market for World Breastfeeding Week. At least 135 community
members were reached by these efforts, including 45 who
completed a quiz to receive breastfeeding related incentives.

This year’s celebration took place at a local park, where mothers and babies
enjoyed spending time together and talking to breastfeeding consultants.
A free webinar was also offered for expectant mothers about how to get
breastfeeding off to a good start.

and Mother’s Milk by Dr. Hale for every
pharmacy in the county
• WBW Display and donation of the children’s

Breastfeeding for every library in the county
• Breastfeeding celebration at a local
community center and splash pad
• Breastfeeding photo contest
• Breastfeeding promotion walk and resource
fair at the local mall
• Participation in the global “Big Latch On”

Kazakhstan
This year the Kazakh breastfeeding consultants united to form an
organization, Milky Help, to make "breastfeeding consultant " a well
recognized profession. Milky Help holds monthly meetings for
breastfeeding mothers.
Highlights of their WBW activities
include:
• The opening of a telephone help
hotline in the cities of Aktobe and
Pavlodar, bringing the number of
hotlines in the country to three
• Meetings for breastfeeding
mothers
• Free seminar for expectant
mothers about breastfeeding
• Posters for healthcare facilities
about positioning and latching
baby as well as hand expression
• Publicity through news programs
of the most popular channels and
articles published in local
newspapers
Dalton, Georgia, USA

The North
Georgia Health
District held a
walk for World
Breastfeeding
Week, which also
included exhibits
and free goodies.
This year’s event was a support group meeting held at a church and
attended by pregnant women, mothers and babies, fathers,
grandmothers, health professionals, the priest – as well as the town’s
mayor and a Member of Parliament!
Speeches about how to support the breastfeeding mother were given
by the officials, experts and mothers who shared their experiences.
