Two Types of 2D Graphics
• Bitmap
• Vector
![Page 3: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Bitmap• A computer graphic file that contains
dot-by-dot representations of the original graphic image– Basically, it’s an image made up of
pixels• When you try and stretch
a bitmap image, it becomes pixilated
![Page 4: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Bitmap
Bitmapped images are also referred to as Raster Images
• Raster Images are often created with a camera or scanner.
![Page 5: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Vector• Defined by mathematical equations
instead of pixels, so they always have a high quality.
• No matter how you stretch vector images, they won’t pixilate
• Most clipart graphics are vector images and they are
resolution independent• Not useable for realistic images
– Too cartoon-like
![Page 6: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Resolution• Refers to the number of pixels in an
image– Usually stated as dpi (dots per inch) or
ppi (pixels per inch)• The higher the resolution, the more
pixels will be in your image, the clearer your image will be
![Page 7: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Editing Images• Crop
– Trim a graphic image
![Page 8: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Editing Images• Handle
– A small square that appears around graphics.
– Used to change the size or shape of the object
• Graphic shapes contain8 handles around an image
• Bounding Box– Lines with handles
around the image when it is selected
![Page 9: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Editing Images• Standoff
– The distance within which text is kept away from a graphic• Text wrap• Also called the
offset
• This image has a text wrap so no text comes in contact with it
![Page 10: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Editing Images• Proportion
– Sizing elements in relationship to their relative size
– By holding down the shift key, you can keep the images proportions the same
![Page 11: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Skewing
• Option that lets you distort objects such as text boxes, drawn or imported graphics, or groups for a special effect
![Page 12: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Creating Documents• Standard/Letter page size
– Default 8 ½” X 11”• Legal size
– 8 ½” X 14”• Tabloid size
– 11” X 17”• Custom size
– Anything else
![Page 13: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Creating Documents• Don’t crowd your page with graphics
![Page 14: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Creating Documents• You should have ONE dominant
graphic• Vary the size and shape of graphics
![Page 15: Working With Graphics 1](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082920/55560aded8b42ae0238b4896/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
