WHY FERMENTATION?

Leaven was discovered over 6000 years ago as the

result of spontaneous fermentation. Since then the

process has been continuously cultivated. Early on it

was recognized that rye enzymes can also be helpful

to the skin and can be used as a compress on burns

and broken skin. The controlled fermentation used

today followed by careful pasteurization is what

makes lots of active agents in rye ‘bio-available’ such

as a large cocktail of amino acids, enzymes,

pentosans and β-1,3 glucan.

WORESANA®

The brand stands for outstanding quality. A 100%

natural substance. The patented active ingredient

WORESANA® for the cosmetic industry, can be used

for natural peeling, it plumps up the skin, is an anti-

irritant, helps generate collagen, has an anti-aging

effect and natural anti-dandruff active agents, for

balanced cosmetic ranges and for hair care ranges.

The various products are equally suitable for

conventional cosmetics and the exacting field of

natural cosmetics.

WHY RYE? Rye (secale cereale) is a widespread cereal crop of

the sweet grass family (poaceae) grown in temperate

climate zones. Rye is an all-round talent. It even

grows on barren soil since it is very tough and

undemanding. Rye was used in traditional pharmacy

to strengthen the immune system and to treat asthma

and bronchitis.

It has been discovered that the risk of cancer is

considerably lower amongst Scandinavians, who

mainly eat rye grain, than in southern countries where

wheat products are preferred. Even menopausal

complaints are almost unheard of here.

WORESANA® concentrate and serum can be

supplied in non-preserved form as long as the whole

container is used immediately after opening. Sodium

benzoate/potassium sorbate or pentylene glycol are

used as preservatives. Other preservatives are

available on request. All WORESANA® products have

a shelf life of 2 years unopened at room temperature.

In addition to WORESANA® for cosmetics, a specially

certified quality for medical products according to ISO

13485 can be supplied under the description Rye-

active®.

COMPOSITION Rich in bio-available active agents. WORESANA®

has an effective skin-balancing effect due to a pure

and natural cocktail of bio-available active ingredients

comprising the following components: a wide

spectrum of acids such as lactic, malic and acetic

acids, amino acids, polysaccharides, vitamins, biotin,

minerals and trace elements. As well as these, rye

contains 6-8% pentosans (wheat only has 2-3%).

These mucilages have a high water binding ability

and thus very good filmogenic properties on the skin.

We would like to highlight the following groups of

substances:

Amino Acids:

WORESANA® provides 6 out of the 8 essential amino

acids for the skin. These components make up an

important component of the Natural Moisturising

Factor (NMF). They have water binding properties

and can fend off free radicals.

Antioxidants and Vitamins:

Of the vitamins, the high concentrations of

pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and nicotinamide in

WORESANA® should be highlighted in particular.

Pantothenic acid can contribute to soothing the skin

and quicker skin regeneration. Nicotinamide plays a

role where various skin diseases such as dermatitis

and acne are concerned and is also significant in

ceramide and cholesterol synthesis, which in turn

have a stabilising effect on the skin barrier. Wrinkles

and hyperpigmentation can thus be reduced.

THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF

WORESANA®

Diverse positive effects. The range of positive effects

with respect to the possible uses of WORESANA®

are very diverse due to its composition.

Antibacterial and Antifungal Activity:

WORESANA® serum showed significant antibacterial

activity against propionibacterium acne and

staphilococcus epidermidis after 24 hours even with a

3% concentration in the application.

The most important positive effects are:

Enzymatic peeling effect due to natural acids

(pH 3.2 – 3.5)

Harmonises and balances the natural skin flora

by adjusting the pH value of skin

Returns skin moisture to normal

Antioxidant capacity

Stabilises the skin barrier

Makes skin smoother and lighter

Antibacterial and antifungal

Filmogenic properties

WORESANA® has very high skin tolerance even with

a 100% concentration in the application. In various

toxicological tests, WORESANA® was shown to be

within normal limits.

WORESANA® can therefore even be applied to skin

at full strength. Its balanced composition makes for

gentle chemical peeling.

Effect on Blemished Skin:

The antibacterial effect of WORESANA® and its

balanced composition make the product ideal for

applying to blemished skin. Bacteria and

inflammatory processes play a major role here. The

following images illustrate this efficacy. An acne spot

fluid formulation containing 7.5% WORESANA®

concentrate was applied to the face of a 14-year old

with blemished skin once a day for 21 days. A clear

improvement in the skin condition could be seen in

the process (see photographs).

This result was corroborated in a controlled half-side

comparison study (n=5, 19-24 years, male and

female). The test persons with acne vulgaris applied

an acne spot fluid formulation containing 10%

WORESANA® concentrate to one side of their faces

for 10-15 minutes (rinse-off mask) every other day for

6 weeks.

It was possible to achieve an improvement in skin

condition compared to the untreated area and a

reduction in the number of lesions and comedones in

comparison to the untreated half of the face could be

observed respectively. The volunteers also said that

their skin felt better generally. It was also possible to

prove the anti-inflammatory activity of WORESANA®

using the ELISA in-vitro test.

Hydration and Skin Roughness:

In a study of 16 female volunteers, a significant

increase (p<0.05) in skin hydration could be detected

using a corneometer after 7 days of daily applications

of WORESANA® concentrate for 10-15 minutes in

comparison to untreated skin (+6%). Moreover, a

significant decrease (p <0.01) in skin roughness was

measured using skin micro-topography after 7 days

(-7.5%). WORESANA® thus contributes to sustained

improvement of skin condition when applied regularly

on a daily basis.

Effect on Nails:

A quite exceptional aspect of WORESANA® that can

be highlighted is the treatment and care of nails. The

combination of substances that build up nails with

antifungal and antibacterial activity is ideal for

reconstructing chipped nails. Relevant tests with 40%

WORESANA® serum in the form of a nail care

preparation show this impressively.

POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS

USING WORESANA®

The possible applications of the various

WORESANA® products are diverse. WORESANA

®

concentrate is left in its natural state and still contains

solid bits of rye. The bits of rye are also left in their

natural state in the WORESANA® fluid but are

reduced to smaller pieces.

WORESANA® serum on the other hand is filtered and

is therefore clear so it no longer contains any solid

bits of rye. All WORESANA® products have a

pleasant aroma like fresh bread.
