Texas A&M AgriLifes main facility for academic events on Texas A&M University s West campus in College Station was officially named the Shirley and Joe Swinkbank '74 AgriLife Center during a reception and dinner in honor of the Houston-based couple. The unique, glass façade AgriLife Center is a multi-use event and exhibit center used for lectures, workshops and symposiums, as well as other events. The Swinbanks have been avid supporters of Texas A&M University and the Department of Agricultural Economics for many years, and the naming of this building will stand as a testament to their engagement and support for many years to come. Guest Seminar On Wednesday, I was able to attend a guest seminar by Clay Hamilton , the Associate Administrator and General Sales Manager for the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). Dr. Parr Rosson and Flynn Adcock worked with Mr. Hamilton to ar- range a speaking opportunity while he was in town and meet with our graduate students to discuss internship and career opportu- nities with The Foreign Agricultural Service. It was a very informative session, and I hope sour students are able to take advantage of the internship and career opportunities. Faculty in the News There was a story in the Battalion this week that featured Nick Kilmer who works in our Personal Financial Management Program, and is the Assistant Director of the Money Education Center. Nick is the lecturer for AGEC 235, Foundations of Money Education. The class is a three-credit elective that covers the basics of managing money, covering topics like budgeting and building credit to buying a home and car. The course was first offered in fall of 2017with 23 students, the next semester it tripled to 70, then the next semester it hit 101. The class now is made up of two sections of 100-student each. The article states that work that Kilmer and his team do through the Money Education Center and AGEC 235 has helped many current and former students have peace of mind regarding their finances. Interview Candidates for Agricultural Marketing and Quantitative Analysis Position Over the last two weeks we have had three candidates interview for the Agricultural Marketing and Quantitative Analysis posi- tion. There is a faculty meeting called for this afternoon in AGLS room 301 to discuss feedback and our next steps. I appreciate the participation of faculty and students in the interview process, the seminars and teaching experiences. I hope all faculty will plan to participate in the faculty meeting this afternoon. I hope you all have a great weekend. Photos courtesy of Blair Fannin
