Why choose wood?When deciding on a lighting column for your project you are faced with a seemingly endless range of options. Choosing the correct material is one of the first step towards making your project a success.

Material plays an immensely important role when it comes to the aesthetics of a product. Some materials convey a cold and industrial feeling while others feel warm and natural. Laminated wooden lighting columns can be used to create richness, drama, symmetry, contrast, and warmth. It is up to you to decide in which direction to go.

Surface TreatmentOur surface treatments have been designed to deliver the ultimate combination of environmental friendliness and wood protection to obtain maximum product life cycle.

Step 1: PreservationFirst, our laminated wood columns are treated with a water based wood preservative which permeates the material and prevents the development of blue stain fungi, mildew and wood rot. This treatment ensures a long life for the column.

***Volatile organic compound (VOC) about 10g/litre.***

Step 1: Brushing and WashingColumns can be brushed and washed with water to remove surface dirt and debris.

Step 2: InspectionOnce clean, the columns can be checked for signs of wear or damage. If no wear or damage is found, no further actions are necessary.

Step 3: Grinding/Sanding and RevarnishingSuperficial surface damage can be easily removed with sanding paper. Filler can be used to hide deeper nicks and gouges. Once the effected area is repaired the surface can then be easily revarnished.

Laminated wood, Glulam StandardsThe beams, from which our poles are made are designed and certified as GL28-h. According to standard EN338, this defines the allowable stresses and properties of glued-laminated timber in 12% humidity. There are among others, four strength classes GL24, 28, 32 and 36h, in order of increasing strength. The thickness of the planks making up the beam will not exceed 34 mm, in compliance with standard EN40 and the CUAP, for “combined wood and metal urban lighting”.

The poles are sized in compliance with current standards and the CUAP. They are produced from a single beam. The planks used to construct the beam are orientated to direct the core outwards. This technique helps to reduce the likelihood of unsightly surface cracks.

SustainabilityThe forest is a renewable resource provided it is managed in a fully sustainable manner... To ensure this, two eco-labels, FSC(1) and PEFC(2) have been created. With over 30 member countries and more than 220 million hectares of forest, the PEFC certification program is the most widespread in the world. This program ensures that the rate at which the forests are harvested does not exceed their regeneration capacity...

We offer full traceability with all of our laminated wooden columns. Upon request we are able to provide the geographical location from which the raw material used to produce your product was harvested. The PEFC label guarantees that the material used to produce your column was harvested from a well managed and fully sustainable forest.

Step 2: ColourNext, the columns are coated with a translucent pigment. This coating is designed to add colour to the column while enhancing the natural grain of the wood. Our wide range of standard colours will allow you to create a product which blends perfectly with your project.

Step 3: ProtectionLastly, three layers of coluor-tinted varnish are applied to protect against UV radiation, blue stain fungi and mildew.

Maintenance actions should be performed on a 7 to 10 year interval, depending on weather conditions and product location. Actions can be preformed on-site while the columns is upright.
