Other configuration relating to Microsoft Operating System security, licensing, registry settings, etc. are outside of the scope of this document. In general, the party who created the application and/or configured the system(s) should be asked to define a method for backing up the application to ensure that any custom configurations (special configurations defined outside the normal Wonderware development environment) are captured. InTouch Stand-Alone or Published Runtime Application Backup the Application Directory 1. Identify the application directory. a. Procedure for Backing Up

Wonderware InTouch Applications

Summary

Prior to modifying a configuration and/or following a configuration modification, or on a routine basis,

application backups should be created. This document provides a method for backing up the various types

of Wonderware InTouch applications. Best practice would dictate that once a backup is created, it is copied

to a removable or network storage media to ensure the ability to recover in the event of a computer hard-

drive failure. This document only offers methodology for backing up Wonderware InTouch application

Backup the Application Directory

The default application will be highlighted and the application directory show next to it.

c. Create a copy of the application directory (this will backup the contents of the InTouch

application). Often a .ZIP file is the most convenient way to create an application backup.

Restoring the Application

1. The application can be restored by copying the application or unzipping the application to the target

hard drive. If the application is to be copied to the original directory, it is recommended that the

contents of the original directory be deleted or the folder renamed.

2. To run the application, open the Application Manager and select the restored application.

InTouch Managed or Published (Development) Applications

Backup the Application Template

1. Open the development environment by starting the ArchestrA IDE. Open Application Manager by

selecting Start | All Programs | Wonderware | ArchestrA IDE

3. Find the Template for the managed application. Templates are identified by a leading $ sign. The

easiest way to identify the correct template is to select the Derivation view in the application toolbars.

4. Right-click on the template and select Export | Object(s)

5. Save the template to a safe backup location. The resulting .aaPKG file is a backup of the entire

InTouch application, including any stand-alone ArchestrA graphics that have been inserted into the

application. This method will not backup ArchestrA graphics that have been inserted from Object

Instances. In order to completely backup an Application Server application, follow the Application

Server Backup procedure.

Restoring the Application

1. In order to restore a managed InTouch application, you must Import the .aaPKG file. Object can only

be imported if a) an object of the same name and type does not exist in the Galaxy or b) the revision of

the object being imported is greater than that in the Galaxy (in other words, the application has been

modified to a greater revision outside of the Galaxy). Objects are restored by opening the Galaxy

application within the ArchestrA IDE and selecting Galaxy | Import | Object(s) from the application

menu.

4. If the Object Template (application) to be imported is newer, or doesn’t exist, the Object Template will

be restored. Note: To restore an application to its original state, it may be necessary to rename (or

delete) the object in the Galaxy. If instances of the Template are deployed, it may be necessary to

create new Instances based upon the restored Object Template.
