BUT…

There are still women today

who cannot stand for what is right, not onlybecause they do not know their rights.

a. not fully convinced of their responsibility toassert their rights

b. permissive in allowing violence againstwomen

c. women should be treated as second class

citizens d. women are weak

e. men are the “KING” of the family



ON THE POSITIVE NOTE…

Women are…

“Ilaw ng Tahanan” Behind the success and the downfall of every

man is a woman.



BUT REALITY SHOWS THAT MANY WOMEN ARESTILL ABUSED.

To protect these women, the Philippines,united with other nations, subscribes to theimplementation of the Magna Carta for

Women which was drafted and approved bythe United Nations.



Section 2 on the Declaration of Policy says,“Recognizing that the economic, political and

socio-cultural realities affect women’scurrent condition, the State affirms the role of women in nation building and ensures thesubstantive equality of women and men.



It shall promote empowerment of women andpursue equal opportunities for women and

men and ensure equal access to resourcesand to development results and outcome.



The State realizes that equality of men andwomen entails the abolition of the unequal

structures and practices that perpetuatediscrimination and inequality.

To realize this, the State shall endeavor to

develop plans, policies, programs, measuresand mechanisms to address discriminationand inequality in the economic, political,social and cultural life of women and men.



The State condemns discrimination againstwomen in all its forms and pursues by all

appropriate means and without delay thepolicy of eliminating discrimination againstwomen in keeping with the Convention on theElimination of All Forms of Discrimination

Against Women (CEDAW).



This advocacy was conceived to educate you,our dear students, on gender sensitivity on

the rights of women. The activity is also incelebration with the International Women’sDay which was ratified by the United Nationson March 8, 1975.



But…

On the other hand, even if there is this law,

there is still violence against women. Abusesare still present. There are still women, who,in their situations,

a. are afraid to speak against their abusive

husbands.b. Women are raped

c. Discriminated because of gender

d. Not given opportunities not just by thesociety but also within their families

e. Turn into sex objects, objects of desire

f. Not treated properly



Women's Month 2012 is celebrated throughout thecountry pursuant to: Proclamation No. 224 s. 1988declaring the first week of March each year asWomen's Week and March 8 as Women's Rights andInternational Peace Day, Proclamation No. 227 s.1988 providing for the observance of the Month ofMarch as Women's Role in History Month, and

Republic Act (RA) 6949 s. 1990 declaring March 8 ofevery year as National Women's Day. RA 6949 is thenational translation of the United Nations Conventionon the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination

against Women (CEDAW) toward the achievement ofthe eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
