Challenges in sexual and reproductive health in the European Region:
• Bewilderment about sexual health and ill-health, evidence and myths
• High rates of sexual violence • Influence of new technologies, medicalization • Lack of data in many countries• …
Recommended actions:• Recognize VAW as a public health and as a human
rights problem • Create policies to eliminate violence against women• Foster violence prevention programs • Collect data on prevalence, risk factors and health
consequences• Provide women centered services for survivors • Train health care providers on prevention and care
Suggested indicators for monitoring post-2015 target on violence against
women: • Prevalence of physical and/or sexual intimate
partner violence in the last 12 months the proportion of ever-partnered women (15-49) who experienced violence in the last 12 months
• Prevalence of sexual violence by a non-partner - the proportion of women (aged 20-29) who have ever experienced sexual violence from the age of 15 on.
