Reflections from Rachel

The older I get the faster the years seem to click by. I remember when I was a little girl (dreaming of growing up to be a Dairy Queen girl,) and it seemed like an eternity between birthdays. Now it always seems like I just had one last month. I guess that is because when you are young, you have such a large percentage of your life ahead of you, God willing. When you see that percentage decrease from 70% to 50% to 40% and so on, you start to evaluate what you have done with the percentage you have lived thus far. You aren’t evaluating your life based upon what you have acquired or the opportunities for fun that you have had, you begin to eva-luate your life based upon significan-ce. Has your life been significant? Have you made an impact? God created us to have significant lives. Ephesians 2:10 says that “we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” It is an ama-zing thought that God prepared works for you and I to accomplish

SignificantLives

before we were even born, and the good works that He has prepared beforehand look different for each of us because He has gifted each of us differently. I have a dear friend who volunteers with hospice. I couldn’t do what she does, but God has gifted her for that ministry and has given her a passion to serve in that manner. God has given me the un-canny ability to have publically em-barrassing moments that I can later share with others so that they can feel better about themselves. It is not necessarily the gift I would have chosen, but evidently it is part of my calling in life, and that is okay. So, it is important that we don’t compare God’s calling for our lives with His calling for someone else’s life. He has a purpose for each of our lives, and we are going to be more content when we are fulfilling the purpose for which we were created.

If you keep your focus on knowing Him and making Him known, then your life will be significant because you will be investing in the things that last for eternity. Get involved in

the things that will help you know the Lord….spend time in His Word and get plugged into a Bible study where other believers can sharpen you in your faith. Look for oppor-tunities to make Him known. This requires getting involved with hu-man beings, and that is not always easy or convenient, but it certainly was not easy or convenient for our Lord to come and dwell among fallen, sinful human beings, either. He set the example for us to follow “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Matt. 20:28). When we are sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and following in the example of our Lord Jesus Christ, we can’t help but have significant lives.

For the last four weeks a team of eleven women have been in training to go on a short term mission trip to Masaya, Nicaragua. They will continue this training for another four weeks before they leave. The team has been learning about cultu-re awareness, doing team building exercises, writing out their story and learning to share God’s story. BrazilNovember 2-15, 2017

Another team of six women ( Linda Clark, Martha Vicario, Pam Staley, Patty Hudson, Susan MacKenzie, Wendy Swafford) has also been in training along with the Nicaragua team. This team will partner with a church in the São Paulo where they will be sharing the gospel in homes of women who have already invited them to come into their homes.

Firsts! This is the first time we’ve sent a women’s team to Brazil. It is the first time that Brazilian women have hosted an evangelical outreach and conference just for women. They are calling it “Operation Andrew.” Each member of Operation Andrew” is praying for ten non-believers to hear the gospel. Our team will go out during the day to the homes, and

in the evening will be involved in evening services held at the church. On Saturday they will host a tea for the women all around the São Paulo countryside.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

Welcome Kelly Cooper with her excitement & a vision for

Tapestry.

Welcome Aboard!!!Fall is a season of change, and there have been some changes occurring in our single women’s ministry, Tapestry. After many years of faithful service in Tapestry, Diann Gregg has retired from lea-dership in Tapestry and is passing the baton to someone new. Diann assures us that she will stay invol-ved in Tapestry, the ministry that she loves so much and has served so faithfully.

So it is with great pleasure that I introduce Kelly Cooper to you. Kelly has been a member of Den-ton Bible since 2011 and has been involved in women’s ministry bible studies, Cornerstone, small group leadership training, leading a 2:7

group for women, Impact men-toring, providing food for Mercy Heart, and volunteering at Woman to Woman Pregnancy Resource Center. Previously married for 25 years, she has a daughter Sarah, married to Justin, and a rambunc-tious grandson Cooper. Kelly works full-time as a human resources professional, and in her spare time she enjoys reading, being out-doors, walking, sports, and spen-ding time with Cooper and her two rescue greyhounds.

Kelly is uniquely qualified for this position of leadership, bringing her ministry experience and life expe-rience to this new area of service to which she has been called.

Being a widow for seven years, she knows what it is like to walk into a big church and be overwhelmed. Her desire is to encourage single women who are new to our church to get plugged into and connected with the fellowship of believers at DBC. She came to know the Lord in 1987 at a women’s retreat and has been involved in ministry since that time.

Kelly has an excitement and a vision for Tapestry, and I look forward to seeing what God does in Tapestry through her leadership!

Welcome aboard, Kelly!

ImpactIntentional Relationships

The aim of IMPACT Women’s Mentoring is to bring about intentional relationships between younger women desiring spiritual growth with more mature women willing to share their faith and life experiences. This ministry is based on the discipleship com-mand of 2 Timothy 2:2 and also on the Titus 2:3-5 directive for mature women to teach god-liness and life skills to younger women. Here is a testimony from an IMPACT mentee:

“God uses so many different tools and ministries to draw us closer to Him. God’s grace and mercy directed me to this ministry. He used mentorship in my life to give me a song of joy and true hope, many answered prayers, a re-newed marriage, and sage advice and encouragement in mother-hood. Praise God! Through the IMPACT ministry, God has given me a gift of wisdom. Having someone who reflects Christ’s love, and points and directs me to Christ (who is the only One worthy), is vital and life-giving. Having an older woman and mentor, a friend who loves Jesus, who has walked in my shoes and prays with me, is truly a gift.”
