MEET THE COACHING STAFFS... Gustavus Head Coach Mike Carroll is in his 13th season at the helm for the Gusties. He has compiled an overall record of 274-65-22 in 13 seasons on the bench and has the most coaching victories in the history of the program. Carroll, an Edina, Minn. native, competed in hockey and baseball at Minnesota State University-Mankato. After graduating with a degree in municipal recreation in 1982, Carroll played professional baseball in the Montreal Expos organization for two years.

Carroll is assisted by Steve Carroll (MSU-Mankato ‘81) - named one of the 10 greatest Mavericks in their men’s hockey program; Kirstin Peterson (Gustavus ‘11), a three-time All-American for the Gustavus women’s hockey program from 2008-11; and Matt Carroll (Gustavus ‘04), Mike’s son.

Steve DeBus is in his second season at the helm for the Pipers women’s hockey program. DeBus, a member of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers’ 1995 WCHA Final Five Champions and 1996 WCHA regular season champions, served as an assistant with the men’s and women’s hockey programs at St. Olaf College for three seasons prior to taking over at Hamline. After graduating from the U of M, DeBus played professional hockey from 1998-2003. DeBus earned his bachelor’s degree in natural resources and American Indian studies from the University of Minnesota in 1998.

DuBos is assisted by Steve Murr, now in his seventh season as an assistant for the women’s program.

ABOUT HAMLINE... Since joining the MIAC in 2000, Hamline has had a rough go. In their inaugural MIAC season, the Pipers went 1-17-0 and compiled just three conference victories in their first four seasons in the league. Hamline reversed its fortunes in the 2006-07 season, though, going 10-6-2 in the MIAC and finishing in fourth place. The Pip-ers defeated Saint Mary’s 4-2 in the first round of the MIAC Playoffs, but lost to Gustavus 4-2 in the semifinals. The next season, Hamline returned to the playoffs after posting an 8-7-3 league mark. After defeating Bethel 5-2 in the opening round, the Pipers’ season was ended once again by the Gusties 5-0 in the semis.

Hamline has endured a pair of three-win seasons and a 4-12-2 mark in the MIAC over its past three campaigns, but has already turned things around this year. Ten games into the league season, the Pipers are 4-5-1 and two points behind St. Thomas for the fifth and final playoff spot.

Jordan Verleye leads the team with 10 points on a team-leading six goals and four assists. Corinne Henning in next in line with nine points on five goals and four assists.

In goal, Nicole Jones has played in and started eight games with a 1.50 goals against average, .948 save percentage and a 4-4-0 record. Sarah Schneekloth has played in and started seven games with a 2.11 GAA, .929 save % and is 2-3-2.

LAST TIME OUT... The Gustie women’s last game on the ice was one to put in the rear view mirror. Tenth-ranked UW-Superior humbled the Gusties with a 5-1 win in Superior, Wis. on Tuesday night, ending Gustavus’ unbeaten season. The setback was the Gusties worst regular season loss since Nov. 3, 2007 when UW-Stevens Point defeated Gustavus 5-1 in the season opener. Tuesday night’s loss came on the heels of Gustavus’ 3-3 tie with Concordia, ending its perfect record in the MIAC.

LUCKY NO. 3... The Gustavus women’s hockey program has been one of the premier Division III programs over its 15-year history. Winning is the standard and it shows in the record books. Only four times in the program’s history have the Gusties gone three games in a row without a win and only once have they gone four consecutive winless contests, which occurred during their inaugural season. Gustavus is currently on a two-game winless streak after starting the season 14-0-1.

25-0?... Gustavus and Hamline have played each other every season since the Pipers joined the MIAC in 2000. And every time the two squads face off, the Gusties have come away victorious. In the 24 games played against each other, the Gusties have accumulated a 24-0 all-time record. Hamline is one of four MIAC teams that Gustavus has never lost to.

POLL POSITION... Sixteen games into the season, the Gusties boast the No. 5 national ranking according to the latest United States College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) poll with 102 points and a 14-1-2 overall record. The Gusties have gained a little more respect in the D3hockey.com poll as the No. 3 team in the land. In both polls, the Three Crowns are the highest ranked squad in the West Region.

POINT-SCORING MACHINES… Senior forwards Allie Schwab and Mollie Carroll are both having career seasons for the Gusties. Schwab’s 30 points on 16 goals and 14 assists is one point shy of her career-high 31 points set during her sophomore season, while Carroll’s 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points are all career-highs. Schwab and Carroll rank first and second in the MIAC in point scoring with 1.76 points per game and 1.47, respectively.
