The word lead originates from the Anglo-Saxon word “laed” which means “to show the way”.

The original intent of leadership therefore means to be a pathfinder – a person who shows the way to others.

It also means to step away from current thinking of leadership as “influence” towards a more bold stance of positive impact.

Grace Hopper was one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark computer in 1944 and invented the first compiler for computer programming language. She was one of those who popularized the idea of machine independent languages which led to the development of Cobol.

The impact of change is seen at every level of the environment, society and organizations. This new world requires new ethics, mindsets and tools. We also need to make new choices – as existing systems become obsolete even the experts do not have all the answers.
