I have an MLIS from San Jose State University with a focus on the Organization of Information and Emerging Technologies. I have worked on digital asset management for the advertising industry, interned in search at Getty Images, assisted on a digital archiving project at The Seattle Public Library, currently volunteer at the Ballard Historical Society and I am the DAM Administrator/Librarian for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Communications digital library project at Corbis Images.
Corbis creates all the photo and video content for the Gates Foundation and I catalog it and manage the system.

Local Controlled Vocabulary/Choosing an Authority
• Project Challenges
• Due to the nature of the content, some architects and artists participating in the 1962 World’s Fair exhibitions were not famous, rather local Seattle professionals unlikely to be listed by standard authorities like the ULAN, AAT or LCSH.

Customizing a Local Vocabulary
• Solution:
• As metadata was collected from each item, AAT, ULAN and LCSH were evaluated. New terms were added to custom local vocabularies in CONTENTdm to align with the custom content.

• This media asset management system serves the Communications department and vendors at the foundation and is comprised of 100K images, documents and videos. It runs on the HP/Autonomy MediaBin platform and has approximately 400 users.
