Differentiating for Inclusion: Target Ladders Every class includes a number of pupils whose learning needs are greater than, or different from, those of the rest of the class. All teachers should be able to identify targets to use as the baseline for intervention and to help those children to make appropriate progress in small steps so as to feel a sense of achievement. However, many teachers in mainstream primary schools don’t know what the next ‘target’ should be. They know what the child can’t do, but they often don’t know how to express that as a target. Each book comes with a CD of photocopiable material, inculding targets pages and records of progress templates.

1. ACE Dictionary
The ACE Spelling Dictionary includes updating and
extending the vocabulary, giving more alternative
spellings, more plural forms and more ‘sound-alike’
words with meanings. The middle section is a darker
blue to make it easier to fi nd the right page. It is clear
that pupils with spelling diffi culties often experience
problems with the whole curriculum and lose confi dence
with writing. The ACE Spelling Dictionary breaks through
these problems. Using the unique 2-page index spread,
pupils need only think how a word sounds to fi nd out
how to spell it. By simply identifying the fi rst vowel
sound, the speller is sent instantly to the page where
the problem word is found. The easy-to-use reference
system will tempt them to use more interesting words
in their writing, enabling them to produce work that
they can be proud of. Both patterns and irregularities
are highlighted in the dictionary so that pupils learn to
spell incidentally. The dictionary includes a clear step-
by-step guide to effective teaching with the dictionary,
over 20,000 words, a comprehensive list of commonly
misspelt words and further learning strategies for
spelling. Contains 328 pages (168 x 246mm).

1. Stile Dyslexia
This edition of Stile Dyslexia is recommended by Dyslexia
Action and offers a specially structured self-checking
programme to take pupils through the rules of spelling
and grammar using a phonic approach.
Fully updated to current guidance, including specially
commissioned illustrations, Stile Dyslexia offers a
structured and cumulative programme, with each
activity focusing on a specifi c learning point, and revision
activities at regular intervals.
This programme comprises nine books on spelling
and grammar rules and one on general sequencing,
including work on the alphabet and months of the year.
Contains 10 books (246 x 171mm), each with 16 pages,
illustrated in full colour.

2. Stile Tray
The Stile Tray is the key to self checking activities. Pupils
answer the questions by matching the tiles directly over
the answers in the clear lid of the tray. They then close
the tray, turn it over, and re-open it to reveal a geometric
pattern, which should match the one printed at the top of
the exercise. A highly motivating way to learn!

3. Help! My Child has Dyslexia
As an experienced teacher and the mother of a
dyslexic child, Judy Hornigold has written the book
that she wishes had been available when her own
son was diagnosed. She writes with knowledge and
understanding, both of the challenges of dyslexia and
of the way in which parents can help to support their
child. It is full of practical ideas that are not only fun but
have been proven to work in helping dyslexic children
to overcome the problems that they face. Includes
photocopiable templates, simple games and activities
and a substantial section of invaluable resources.
W1002025 £ 12.99
4. Roar the Dinosaur
This beautiful series of picture books introduces Roar,
the brave and strong little dinosaur who knows it’s
okay to do things differently. Roar books and resources
have been specially created to help children with high-
functioning Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome and those who
live and work with them. Just like Roar, children with
autism think in a different way.
The enchanting books invite children, parents/carers
and professionals to celebrate the strengths of children
with Asperger’s. Roar has many great qualities including
honesty, determination, attention to detail, exceptional
memory and a sense of humour. Roar helps children
move from feeling, “I’ve got it wrong!” to saying, “This is
me. I’m okay.”
Roar is the main character in each book, alongside a
family member and her supportive friend. She uses her
special talents and likes to be busy, but enjoys taking a
break by hiding – just as children with Asperger’s fi nd
joining in can be hard work and like to take a break,
perhaps by doing a simple activity on their own; routine
and ritual restore an overloaded mind.
While created for those on the autistic spectrum,
Roar’s zest for life will appeal to children and families
everywhere!
Full colour throughout, written in rhyming verse, with 36
pages in each book. Size: 210 x 148mm.

1. Visual Memory Skills
Visual memory skills are so important in the classroom
context: they are an essential element of reading,
spelling and retaining all sorts of information. This book
will be a fantastic resource to boost children’s visual
recall skills, and therefore their ability to effectively
access the curriculum. Children will love the imaginative
tasks, and won’t even realise they are practising this
important skill as they work through these challenging
activities. The book is divided into handy sections, each
of which is designed to improve a different aspect of
visual memory, such as remembering objects, object
details and elements of objects like colour and pattern.
The second part of the book explores sequential memory
for objects, letters and digits; and object details such as
orientation and size. The book focuses on higher order
skills as it progresses, and the tasks become increasingly
challenging within each section. This enables children
either to work through the book in order or to pinpoint
a particular section they wish to focus on. Containing
48 pages of appealing activities, this book is ideal for
children aged 4+ and older children with particular
needs in this area. It is a perfect companion to Auditory

4. Receptive Language Difficulties
Children’s ability to understand and act upon spoken
language is a crucial skill in terms of their development
and education. However, children who struggle to
process such information are often diffi cult to detect,
which can harm their progress. This book has been
written by Liz Baldwin, author of I Hear With My Little
Ear, to help you address this diffi cult area. Based on
her extensive experience as a speech and language
therapist, the author provides sections in the book that
explore:
• what is involved in understanding spoken language
• diffi culties encountered in understanding spoken
language
• how to identify children with such diffi culties
• the impact of receptive language impairment on
behaviour
• how to develop effective listening skills
• how to develop strategies to help children’s
understanding
• how to develop children’s language and literacy skills
It includes advice, guidance, strategies and activities for

Kaos World Chronicles - A structured literacy scheme for KS3-4 students This reading scheme is designed for secondary students who have struggled to engage with literacy or who have gaps in their learning.
The StoriesThere are a series of high-interest, low-ability short stories in two versions – Easy and Standard. Books 1-10 progress from RA 5.5 to 6.2 in the easy versions and 6 to 7.2 in the standard versions, based on the Flesch-Kincaid Reading Levels. Two versions of the story allow for differentiation and enable more students to access whole-group work. The stories are set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world where society has broken down. They follow two main characters, Travis and Spanna, as they battle to survive in a dangerous, unpredictable world. Each book continues the story on from the one before, which helps to maintain the students’ interest in reading and build up their enthusiasm for literacy. The stories develop in complexity and deal with key contemporary issues such as violence, bullying,gang-membership, risk-taking and love. Each story also contains a list of tricky words at the back to reinforce the more diffi cult vocabulary found in the book, and the number of words on each page is highlighted so students can record their progress and feel a sense of achievement as their fl uency improves.Teacher’s books and accompanying CDs provide electronic versions of worksheets, monitoring sheets, records of progress, target sheets and certifi cates to help motivate and reward. Each reading book is A5 with 24 pages and black and white illustrations.

I Hear with my Little Ear 2 is a collection of 102 language

sections focusing on listening skills, language structures,
vocabulary development and use of language. Each
section provides games addressing different aspects of

The games are designed to be played in groups. Most

language development. They are suitable for children
from the age of 3 to 11. Most of the games need very few
resources and no preparation. Every game has ideas to
