1Issue 1 - 2015

Hello readers,

Welcome to our first edition of WManager for the year 2015.

This year, in many ways, is a special year. We will be celebrating our 40th year in ship management. During these 40 years we have experienced the ups and downs of a cyclical industry – but every time we have been able to pull through.

Our buoyancy is due to our dedicated and hardworking employees, both on board the vessels and ashore.

The ship management industry has evolved quite a lot during these years. At the beginning, from a more nuts and bolts industry, to what we see today; specialized and competent employees servicing all types of vessels that are increasingly sophisticated and advanced.

All those require deep technical skills and knowledge and our highly capable people have navigated us safely through the storms.

In this issue, you’ll read about the successful launch of Viking Star and the team from WSM who worked round-the-clock to make her a seaworthy cruise ship. The partnership with Viking Cruise is continuous and we are looking forward to the next launch of a sister ship. Stay tuned for it! We are proud to be a company that is people-centric and strive to give back to our people and community.

The first half of 2015 was time for human capital development and progression with organised training for staff. On top of that, I hope the story of goodwill from our colleagues in Romania will warm your hearts as it did mine.

True to our initiative to cater to new possibilities, we managed to secure our very first offshore wind power project – DolWin Beta. The unfailing efforts of our team and their adaptability to new terms have secured us the project of moving the world’s largest wind power platform.

Another notable milestone for us was the joint venture with Diana Shipping Inc. that opens a gateway for both parties to bring world-class ship operations to enhance commercial activities in the Mediterranean. It is gratifying to know that we are working together to continue to grow as a company.

As always, thank you for being part of this family.

I hope you enjoy this edition of WManager!

Yours sincerely,

Carl SchouPresident, Wilhelmsen Ship Management

In Summer 2014 when Viking Cruises gave WSM Norway the good news of our appointment as manager for Viking Star, we were overwhelmed with honour.

MV Viking Star was meant to be a true beauty and work began almost instantly at the Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard outside Venice, Italy, to make this fair lady.

Paal Lande, Fleet Manager of WSM Norway and his team at Oslo said WSM played a critical role prior to delivery takeover.

There was crew to hire, manuals to write, procedures to define and a complete operational organisation to map, both onboard and ashore,” he continued.

“ Our mandate is to ensure safe and efficient operation once the vessel is delivered but there was a lot of work to be done even before Viking Star entered service, ” said Paal.

Since Viking Cruises is a new customer to WSM, the processes were especially extensive as there were no prior interfaces to rely on. These challenges added to the experience of new learnings on how we work internally and with the customer. With all dedication and excellent coordination between both parties, Viking Star was delivered on schedule on 31 March 2015. She is the first cruise vessel in years to sail under the Norwegian flag, with Bergen as her home port. She is also the first of the new buildings ordered at Fincantieri of Italy by Viking Ocean Cruises.

The state-of-the-art cruise vessel has the capacity to carry 930 passengers in her all-balcony staterooms and is equipped with a wide range of facilities to cater for the guests’ comfort, such as a spa and an infinity pool. The Viking Star’s initial itineraries include Northern European and Mediterranean ports.

On 17 May 2015, Viking Star was christened by the mayor of Bergen, Norway, Trude Drevland, in front of a crowd of 20,000 people as part of the citywide celebration of the Norwegian National Day.

A Business for the People ” – that is the motto Barklav, WSM Romania’s manning office, believes in. On 7 May 2015, Barklav celebrated its 15th anniversary by making it a meaningful one with a charitable event.

Casa Benjamin opened in 1998 as a settlement for boys aged between 8 and 19 years old coming from broken homes, very poor families and even from the streets. The home provides tutoring, counseling, life skills, medical assistance, relationship building and talent development skills to help them plan their future.

BARKLAV CSR PROJECTWSM Romania’s manning office celebrated a meaningful 15th anniversary.

The project was developed in coordination with partners Project Romanian Rescue (PRR) and Youth with a Mission (YWAM). Both have been doing an extraordinary job raising the children from the home to become productive members of our society. Many of them have been reintegrated or connected with their natural families and have begun a normal life after graduating.

On 1 May 2015, all office staff from Barklav volunteered to help paint the workshop. The project will continue through the spring of 2016-2017 with the development of different workshops in carpentry and mechanics. Also, the vocational center will continue to evolve as Barklav staff will further offer assistance to the children from the center by volunteering in different educational activities.

On 7 May 2015, Espen Sending, Vice President of Marine Personnel; Laurentiu Lazar, General Manager of Marine Personnel WSM Romania; and Torbjørn Eide, Vice President of Klaveness Ship Management AS, officiated the opening of the workshop.

“ A Business for the People ” – that is the motto Barklav, WSM Romania’s manning office, believes in.

The event materialized through joint donations from Klaveness Ship Management and Wilhelmsen Ship Management for the construction of a carpentry and mechanics workshop for the boys’ home “Casa Benjamin” in Mihail Kogalniceanu, Constanta.

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has entrusted WSM to manage the maritime operation of the world’s largest offshore wind power platform, DolWin Beta.

Kenneth Bjørklund, WSM Bergen Fleet Manager, played a pivotal role in bringing this new business to us as the instrumental person handling this project. He said, “Due to ABB’s preferred contract setup we had to adapt to terms that we were not familiar with, hence the support from our legal department has been very important. We have also negotiated new liability terms, requiring new and customized insurance policies; in fact the whole agreement structure is new and unique for this project.

The work with this tender has also required considerable efforts from our crewing and crew accounting departments, in addition to our HSEQ team.”

Crew is currently being mobilized; key positions for the site team first, then gradually increasing to full manning. The manning will vary from a maximum of 48 persons on board (including ABB process technicians) to unmanned operation. During installation and commissioning we expect to provide a Marine crew in the range of 6 (minimum safe manning) to 20, depending on the customers’ need for assistance in addition to the operational side.

The plan is to tow the DolWin Beta to its final location in August this year for final trials and commissioning. This is a great opportunity to enter into a new market. Offshore wind power is an exciting segment within the offshore industry with great potential for further growth. The environmental aspect of wind power production will also have a positive effect for WSM in general.

We also hope that this may lead to a future cooperation with the owner of DolWin Beta after final handover, and other similar projects.

DOLWIN BETAThe world’s largest offshore wind power platform, DolWin Beta, moves with WSM.

The expected total duration is about 12 months, after which the DolWin Beta will be handed over to its owner and end user, a German power company.

Page 9: WManager Issue 1-2015

The platform will receive electrical AC power generated from several offshore wind farms in the area, convert the power to 420 KV DC, and then export it to the shore side power network via a single subsea cable installation.

It has a total conversion capacity of 924 MW, which is sufficient to supply to about 470,000 average households.

HAZMAT TRAININGIHM (Inventory of Hazardous Materials) Services Audit and On Board HazMat (Hazardous Materials) Training at WAC Labuan.

On March 2015, HazMat Experts from the WSM team underwent an audit and a training course conducted by Gerhard Aulbert, Global Head of Practice Ship Recycling at DNV-GL (Maritime), Hamburg, Germany.

Our HazMat team found the training beneficial especially for upgrading their understanding in developing the IHM as per Hong Kong Convention which is a core deliverable from WSM to client.

Standing (left to right): Jonathan Masudal; Mohd Radzi Aliadin, Mhd Ridzuan Hashim, Ahmad Khairi Khalid, Gerhard Aulbert (HazMat Expert Trainer – Class DNV-GL), Ahmad Zamri Alwi, and Nickles Chang.

Besides the DNV certification, WSM has also been awarded the LR certificate in Approval of Service Suppliers to develop the IHM.

At the moment, WSM has over 20 HazMat Experts (IHM surveyors) certified by DNV-GL, Lloyd’s Register and Class NK, including our Recycling Team in China comprising of Zhu Xin and Huang Xing.

WSM is looking at continuing our expansion especially in view of the recent passage of the EU regulations which mandates a compulsory IHM for any vessel touching or anchoring off EU Ports within 2020.

WManager14

“ We believe that only competent surveyors can perform the IHM survey efficiently and we’re doing it now ” said Mr Rohaizad Roosli, one of our pioneer HazMat Experts.

ENHANCING THE DRY DOCK EXPERIENCEWorking smarter with a smoother process.

Lee-Sang Hyeop, Assistant Vessel Manager from WSM Korea, also agreed that the tool can better facilitate the dry docking process.

We can record vessel defects on a daily basis and when the time for docking comes, the report allows us to make a more accurate cost summary to get a better deal with shipyards,” said the appointed Super User for Korea.

All docking projects in WSM Malaysia are already using the software since mid-2013 and WSM Korea will do the same from 2015.

Sanjiv Rastogi (right) with the dry docking team in Korea

Sanjiv Rastogi, Head of New Building and Technical Services (NETS), conducted training at WSM Korea on the use of Refman, a defect reporting and dry docking software. Short for REFit MANagement, the software is mainly a project management tool that will help owners to better gauge cost and time during the docking process.

WSM has a dedicated dry docking team headed by Mr Rastogi and they are fully trained and ever ready to support the technical teams.

We understand that the dry docking team is here to help us and the software will make things easier. The vessel manager’s workload will be reduced as they are supported by the dry docking team. Overall quality of work will improve with good specifications, including budget control and time management,” said Amitabh Agrawal, a WSM Korea Fleet Manager.

Things you should know:• Start dry docking preparation 12 months before actual docking date

• Specification is the most important element in the docking process. The specifications are:

Informing shipyard exactly what needs to be done step-by-step to avoid extra charges in later stage of docking NOT a defect list; though defect lists should provide inputs for specification

GOING CASHLESSSecurity and mobility in one card.

WSM Vessel Accounting (WVA) launched a service to ship owners for crew by providing a prepaid card to manage payment transfers to seafarers. The new prepaid card allows secure cashless transaction whereby Finance will make the debit directly to account holders. Every crew with the prepaid card will be able to use the card like an ATM for cash withdrawal and a debit card for purchases.

With this, ship owners can benefit from:• Freeing Masters from cash collection (safety and time)• Money saved from employing agents to send the money (like husbandry services) / agency fee

For crew, upon usage, the only payment they make is the currency exchange and a small fee if withdrawals are made at non-Citibank ATMs. All transactions are in USD. The crew provided constructive feedback to their managers and since most are already users of credit cards, they know that it is a convenient way to pay during travels.

WSM KOREA 10th ANNIVERSARY1 April 2005 marked the incorporation of Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) in Korea.

WSM Korea’s first ship management agreement was signed with Morning Mermaid, a vehicle carrier owned by EUKOR, on 11 April 2005.

That year alone, a total of 11 vessels came on board. As of 1 April 2015, WSM Korea has 31 vessels under technical management and 20 employees in office with 200 Korean seafarers and 19 cadets on board and 70 seafarers on leave.

To strengthen internal bonding in conjunction with its 10th year anniversary, WSM Korea held a combination of team building workshops from 24-25 April 2015.

A warm up session called “Survival Game” kicked off the event with 20 employees divided into two teams. The game was designed to encourage team motivation.

In the next session, a workshop under the theme “Together Towards Tomorrow” included team building and recreational activities with quizzes on WSM Korea’s history and governance.

WSM Korea is a success story and has, in the last decade, grown to be one of our biggest management centres. We hope to continue developing WSMK in a positive direction and would like to thank everyone for their contribution to this success.

AMVER AWARDSWSM USA, Norway and Singapore receive AMVER awards.

WSM USAWSM USA was given tremendous applause at the award ceremony as some of the ships had the longest consecutive years in AMVER service. MV Prospector II served 32 years followed by Vulica ships with 27 years in AMVER. WSM USA General Manager Aditya Saxena accepted the award from Admiral Paul Zinkumft, Commandant of United States Coast Guard (USCG).

WSM NorwayErik Lyngnes, Regional HSEQ Manager –Americas & Europe, represented WSM Norway to receive 10 awards for our ships in AMVER service from Acting Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the United States of America, Carmela Conroy.

WSM SingaporeGeneral Manager of WSM Singapore, Jan Tynaes (right), accepted 15 awards for ships in AMVER service from the jointly organized ceremony by the Singapore Shipping Association and USCG.

We have deep appreciation for all ships in AMVER service. Volunteering to deviate from a vessel’s course does not come without a cost but we have done so willingly for so many years to contribute to the safety of the global maritime community.

Congratulations and well done as always.

About AMVERAMVER, acronym for Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue, is a computer-based global ship reporting system used worldwide by search and rescue authorities to arrangefor assistance to persons in distress at sea. This voluntary reporting system is sponsored by USCG and has over the years become one of the most reliable system for search and rescue efforts.
