GETTING STARTED Creating an Account

Create an account. Wix will ask you a series of questions to which you will answer so that Wix creates a suggested website for you. You may choose to skip this step and instead choose one of the many templates that Wix has to offer. Alternatively, it is also possible to start a site from scratch.

Creating a Website

Click on the “Create Website” button, which will appear repeatedly as you navigate through your account dashboard.

Select the option that mostly accommodates to your needs. Photography will be used as an example to show how to build a website.

After selecting the topic of your website, you will be shown several templates. Choose the one that is more attractive to you and click on “edit” in order to start editing that template to make it your own. For this example, we will be using the Photographer template.

After this step, you will be sent to the editing window. You have officially created a website.

There are many things that need to be changed about the template in order to make it yours, these will be explored in the following chapter.

WEBSITE BUILDING Adding Pages

The most important feature of a website are the pages enclosed within. In order to create a new page in Wix, go to the left menu, click on “Menus and Pages,” and then click on “Add Page.”

Afterwards, name your new page and start adding things to it.

You can also create a subpage, which will appear after hovering on the name of the top page, that name is located on the top right menu of the page.

In order to create a subpage, select the page that you want to change, and place it under the page that you want it to be used as a menu. Then click on the three dots that appear on the right side of the name. Finally, select the option “Subpage.”

Adding Images

In order to add images, you will need to click on the “Add” button, which is on the left menu. A lot of options will appear, look for “image” (or “gallery,” if you wish to add several photos).

Click on “My Image Uploads,” and then this window will pop up.

Click on the top right button that says “Upload Images” and import images from your own device.

After uploading some of your photos, your images window will look like this:

Select the image that you wish to upload, then click on the “Add to Page” button, and it will be added to the website.

That is how all of your photos will be added. The process of uploading images to a cloud provided by Wix and then selecting which ones to place on the site is tedious to a certain extent, but you will get used to it.

Adding Videos

In order to add videos to a Wix page, use the “Add” ribbon, which can be found in the left menu. Then look for the option “Video” and Choose one of the video boxes that appeals to you.

After selecting the box that you want, you will have to follow the same process that you used to add an image—upload the video, and then select it to place it in the webpage.

Adding a Blog Page

In case that you need a space to post written entries, you can add a blog page to your site. In order to do so, go to the menu on the left, select “Add,” and find “Blog.” Finally, click on “Add to site.”

Wix will create a new page titled “Blog” with all the components included already. To manage your posts, find “My Blog” on the left menu or simply click twice on the blog posts that appear in the page. Then click on “Manage Posts,” There, you will be able to delete the preloaded posts that Wix has included (you might want to read them, as they include some important advice for blog usage). You will also be able to write a new entry and publish it.

WEBSITE PUBLISHING Saving

At any point in time, you are able of saving your website. This does not mean publishing it.

In order to save it, go to the top right part of your window, where the “Save” button is. Click on it, and you will be prompted to name your site.

Name your site and select “Save and Continue.”

Publishing

After saving your site, you may click on “Publish” in order to make your site public and registering your domain. You can make changes and then click “Publish” again. At any point in time, you may publish your website.
