REDISCOVER JESUS with us during Lent

Whether you have been following Jesus for years or are still asking curious questions, we would love to invite you to rediscover Jesus in new ways this year as we head through Lent to Easter. The Rediscover Jesus book is an insightful journey filled with 40 simple thoughts to chew on each

day. Along with this, we are encouraging people to take the Matthew Challenge. By simply reading four chapters each week, one will get through the Gospel of Matthew before Easter. (reading schedule on page 3)

We have purchased enough of the Rediscover Jesus books so that everyone can have their own copy. We’d love this to empower your personal devotions, your family times, and your life groups. On top of that, we will also be having some Great Room Great Conversations following the services during March for you to join us as we travel together. One of the best things we can do is to see Jesus with fresh eyes! Join us as we seek to rediscover Jesus!

So What IS Lent and Why Observe It? Lent, the six week period leading up to Easter, is one of the most important times of the year for many Christians. While Advent is a celebration and a time of great anticipation, Lent is more frequently seen as a time of solemn observance and preparation for the death of Jesus and celebration of His resurrection at Easter. From its start on Ash Wednesday until its conclusion on Easter Sunday, Lent has been a traditional time for fasting or giving something up. Lent invites us to make our minds and hearts ready for remembering Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.

Palm Sunday Easter Immersion Palm Sunday, April 5 | 4:30 - 6:00 pm | in the Great Room

This week is also sometimes called Passion Week, as we see the passion of Jesus as he willingly went to the cross in order to pay for the sins of His people. Join us as we immerse ourselves in an extended, artistic-enhanced reading of later chapters of the book of Matthew. Deadline to Register: March 8

The “Bin” Schedule

Collection bins are available at the East and West entrances as an opportunity to help with ongoing ministries. Here’s the current rotation:

Any weekend: Refuge Laundry Kits, quarters, laundry pods, dryer sheets. Drop off at the PEAK information desk or set up a collection time with Kelly Vath: [email protected].

Any Weekend: Jesus on Colfax, serves those who are living in motels on E. Colfax. Bring McDonald’s, Panda Express and grocery gift cards and / or cash to the mini-bin located at the Outreach Center in the Lobby.

1st weekend: Growing Home, serves homeless families or those at risk of becoming homeless. Bring non-perishable food items, diapers, etc. to be distributed through their food pantry. It’s generally our Communion weekend, so let that be your monthly reminder to bring food for others, as we receive God’s special nourishment.

2nd weekend: Breaking Free,

sponsored by our Youth, addresses the needs of those living on the streets. Bring new socks for men, individually packaged snacks, winter gloves, hats, disposable water bottles, deodorant, bungee cords.

3rd weekend: The Refuge, a Broomfield ministry that serves those struggling economically, including single moms and homeless individuals. Bring tissues, toiletries, baby supplies (diapers/wipes/food, formula), general (soap/shampoo) and feminine hygiene products, laundry detergent, dish soap.

Storage space is limited at our church; thank you for adhering to this schedule AND for your ongoing generosity.

Operation Christmas Child During the 40 days of Lent, we will have a special collection for Operation Christmas Child. We will be collecting bars of soap, combs, and tennis balls. Collections are underway through Easter Sunday. Please drop your items off in the labeled box in the children’s wing. Thank you.

Operation Christmas Child WOW Update Out of the 89 churches in the North Denver area that participated in OCC, Family in Christ ranked number 1 with a total of 759 boxes made by this church body! There was a total of 12,936 boxes donated in the North Denver area and about 10 million world wide! Now the best part: Last year, 525,000 precious souls professed faith in Christ and are forever joined with Him. This number does not reflect all those with whom the children share their testimony in their circle of influence with family and friends. Thank you for your part in this ministry!

Last month, our middle and high school students had a fantastic opportunity to go downtown and serve the homeless through our Breaking Free ministry. Eight of us went to pass out breaking free bags, have conversation, and help the hurting and homeless of Denver. With all of the recent snow, it was satisfying to see many needs met in the homeless community. Several conversations were had about Jesus Christ and the teens were able to pray for them.

We need your help though. With this most recent trip, we have run out of supplies to make homeless breaking free bags. If you are interested in helping out our homeless ministry, please drop supplies off in the bins located at the church entrances when they are labeled ―Breaking Free‖, the second weekend of every month. Supplies needed include: small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hand sanitizer, soap, socks, hats/beanies, water, small snacks, toothpaste, toothbrush, gloves, small bungee cords, small toiletry bags, and combs.

LIFT Youth Group Sundays at the Church, 3:30 - 6 pm *

Are you in 6th-12th grade? We want you here! This time together on Sundays from 3:30-6:00 pm is invaluable to a 6th-12th grader’s growth as a person, friend, and follower of Jesus. Our goal is to be the friendliest place in Westminster. We build a very welcoming, supportive, and authentic community during our time together which often includes fun games, mentoring, snacks, help with peer issues through discussion and sermons, prayer exercises, student--led worship, service opportunities, and more.

This month will feature fun nights where we go out to our surrounding neighborhoods to play a game called Bigger or Better and invite teenagers to join us; we will be studying the topic of prayer through our sermons and groups; and we have a fun lock-in planned!

* Youth group will unofficially begin at 3:30, but we will have a hard start at 4:00. The purpose for the 30 minutes from 3:30-4:00 is to provide students opportunities to meet with leaders 1 on 1, meet with their discipleship pairs, hang out and catch up with friends, play games, and grow in community. We are calling it our flex time to allow God to use it for whatever the students need during that time.

Elevation Squads

On the first Sunday of each month we will be doing Elevation Squad Nights at Youth Group. This month it will be on March 1. Elevation squads are where we meet in small groups of your same age to play games, eat snacks; but most importantly to grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus in a tight-knit community. We do this through tailored discussion and authenticity based on relevant topics chosen by students. This is something you should want to be at every single month.

Plus, we will go and see the brand-new movie called “I Still Believe.” It’s the heartwarming story of Jere-my Camp’s life and how he held on to his faith in Jesus amidst some incredibly diffi-cult trials. We will spend time after in discussion and worship. Of course, there will be games, food, and very little if any sleep. Sign up is online and cost is $20!

Julie Walden Elder at Large

The Council of Family in Christ consists of lay people elected to serve as Elders or Deacons for a 3-year term. Along with Pastor Paul, the Council works together for the wel fare of the congregation and to foster community outreach.

The role of Elder is one of shepherding the flock and encouraging them to understand their calling to care for and support one another.

The role of Deacon is servant-oriented, to offer mercy, and oversee the benevolence ministry.

Photos to help put a face with a name of each Council member are available by the coat racks at the west end of the church.

Feel free to contact an Elder or Deacon; they are available to shepherd and encourage.
