We open a new season in Wheeler Concert Hall at Casper College with one of the most famous flutists in the world, Carol Wincenc, performing an American masterpiece written for her, and recorded by her — the stunning Renaissance Concerto by famed American Composer Lukas Foss. The concert begins playfully with Rossini’s frolicking L’Italiana in Algeri Overture, and concludes with the warmth of Antonin Dvorak’s 8th Symphony.
Beethoven’s fascination with powerful characters is on display in this program of passionate music. The legend of Roman General Coriolanus provides a dramatic and proud opening to the concert. Next you’ll hear the lush sounds and youthful enthusiasm of Tchaikovsky’s beloved Serenade. Finally we’ll welcome pianist Elena Ulyanova performing Beethoven’s most famous concerto—the majestic Emperor.
Two of symphonic music’s most famous masterpieces are featured in what promises to be the most stirring performance of our season. First you’ll meet Deutsche Grammophon recording artist and a former finalist in the revered Paganini International Violin Competition, Francesca Dego, performing the thrillingly virtuosic 3rd concerto of Camille Saint-Saens. Following that will be the captivating drama of Johannes Brahms epic 3rd Symphony.
Having performed in virtually every corner of the world, we’re proud to present hornist Eric Ruske in his much anticipated return to our stage. Eric was appointed to the prestigious position of Principal Horn for the Cleveland Orchestra at the age of 20 and later went on to continued fame as a member of the revered Empire Brass Quintet. He’ll present us with the elegance of Mozart and the beauty of Dukas’ Villanelle. The festive Polonaise from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin will usher in the evening and we’ll conclude with the playful 9th Symphony of Dmitri Shostakovich.
Current Principal Trumpet for the Dallas Symphony and former Principal Trumpet for the world famous Canadian Brass, Ryan Anthony is known as one of the greatest trumpeters and entertainers in the world. Having performed many times with Maestro Savery, the two have formed a special friendship over the years, and have written this Holiday extravaganza as a showcase for both of their musical and comedic talents. Watch them ham-it-up while enjoying Ryan’s phenomenal talent.
Dear Friends,A musical celebration like you’ve never experienced is in store with our 66th concert season. Joined by the most impressive group of internationally renowned guest artists we’ve ever
presented, along with a stunning array of some of the greatest music ever written; we’ll thrill you with the magic of live symphonic music and touch your soul. A subscription to the Wyoming Symphony’s 66th season will offer memories that will last a lifetime. Enjoy!
