. When we started the year we had the task cut out and went on methodically to accomplish it. With very

enthusiastic EC members, it was my pleasure to head and guide this prestigious organization. We have

tried to make every program and academic activity as useful as possible and to give new direction to

SSBASICC. With a whole lot of new initiatives, the organization is very vibrant and strong. The association

is very lucky to have senior members, matured stalwarts and also the young & enthusiastic surgeons who

are the future of this organization. During my tenure almost all the EC meetings attendance used to be full

and most of them were held at the Sheraton Grand Bangalore Brigade Gateway and I am very happy

about this. The monthly meet attendance has crossed all time high and this was possible because of the

hosting institutions 'enthusiastic participation. Most of my wish list have been fullled. So now we have a

very interactive website; cash transactions have stopped; payment gateway is active and paperless

communications is well accepted. I must complement and congratulate each and every one of you for

bringing this change. The new venue for CSEP this year was central (M S Ramaiah Medical College

Hospital) and arrangements were appreciated by everyone.

This year we conducted two Programs with the nancial support from Abbott India Limited

1. “Hemorrhoids & its Management” were organized by Surgical Society of Bangalore ASI CC in thAssociation with Abbott India Limited ( GI Prima Division) on Saturday 30 March 2019 at the Sheraton

Grand Bangalore Brigade Gateway “ Ceres Hall” The Guest Speaker was Dr Ashok Ladha – Colorectal

Surgeon.

2, “Gastro Conclav – Innovative Stenting in Upper GI Tract” Organised by Surgical Society of ndBangalore in Association with Karnataka Gastro Centre on Saturday 2 NOVEMBER 2019 at the

Sheraton Grand Bangalore Brigade Gateway “Grand ball Room”

3. For 2020 I have also discussed with Abbott India Limited (GI Prospera) Division to conduct a CME thProgram on Saturday 4 January 2020 at Hotel Sheraton Grand Bangalore. With Guest Speaker

Dr Shailesh Shrikande in the space of Pancreas endorsed by SSBASICC.

For the coming year 2020 I have few suggestions for the incoming team of Dr Kalaivani V: 1. Work hard to get a land, so that we can construct our own building 2. All EC members and others should get familiarized with Bylaws from the rst EC meeting itself

My special thanks & congratulations to Dr C S Rajan for conducting this exemplary quiz 17 years in a row.

I was very lucky to have Dr Sampath Kumar K as Honarary Secretary who deserves special appreciation

for his dedication and effort in making this tenure unique. I thank all the EC members for their whole

hearted co-operation, senior surgeons who guided us, every member who participated in all the

deliberations and nally Glen William and Kumar, who are the back bone of SSBASICC.

I wish you all a very Happy New year 2020 and wish the incoming President Dr Kalaivani V and her

team a very successful tenure.

Message from the President ElectDEAR MEMBERS,

Season's Greetings and best wishes! New Year, New Team and fresh hope!

At the outset, I would like to thank one and all for placing trust in me to occupy this prestigious post of

President 2020 of Surgical Society of Bangalore. I have started my journey in SSB ASI CC as a postgraduate

student, presenting a scientic paper from Bangalore Medical College at the monthly clinical meeting and

winning the best paper award.

SSB was introduced to me by my beloved teachers, Professor G. S .Dinesh Babu and Dr Seshasayi . I never stopped attending these meetings and have

seen SSB steadily growing in strength and quality.

As the President 2020, I aim to keep up the standards of scientic sessions that will be conducted by SSB, thus making it useful for the upcoming young

Surgeons.

'SILENT, SCRUPULOUS AND SCHOLARLY 'SURGEON, may be the theme for the year 2020.

I request the senior members, my colleagues and dear friends to guide me through and give your valuable opinion, new ideas and innovations to achieve

this goal.

I end with this note 'WE THRIVE TO SAVE ONE'S LIFE, HOLDING KNIFE '.

A. Employment Assistance – new job advertisements are published on our website and has received good response. We need to encourage this to bridge the gap between hospitals and aspirants.

B. Monthly clinical meet Attendance – personal invitation was extended to members from the society and HOD of concerned institute hosting the MCM.C. Conducting CMEs & Basic skill courses – highlighted below.D. Website – updated frequently so as to reect the day to day activities of the society.E. Surgeons Day celebrations and CSEP – We were very well prepared in advance and hosted it meticulously.

As a go Green policy during my tenure.1) Sending mobile text messages to all SSB member inviting for Surgeons day, CSEP and Orations, so that important events are not missed. Also by emails.2) All invitations for Orations , Annual General Body Meeting Notice were sent by emails and whatsapp Groups only. This was very much welcome by the members.3) As far as Possible we avoided giving mementos and started giving ower pots as a token of gratitude.

The Monthly Clinical Meetings (MCM) were all held at the central location, API Bhavan except for the Command hospital MCM. In all MCM, post graduate teaching sessions were conducted from 6pm-7pm. The attendance of PGs during teaching session needs to be improved. Request is made to all the institute heads to send their PGs every month, apart from hosting institute's PGs. This session was followed by poster presentation and free paper presentations. We increased the capacity of pendrives to the winners of the posters and paper presentations. The clinical meetings were all excellent with good quality scientic papers and well attended. Importantly we introduced the national anthem in all the monthly clinical meetings. Apart from these MCM, the society was associated with many other programs.

At the beginning, I thank all the members of SSB who gave me this opportunity to serve. The activities of the SSBASICC in the year 2019 started with a good note by monthly clinical meeting hosted by St.Martha's Hospital at API Bhavana. The executive committee met periodically to guide the association and to take important decisions. I acknowledge with sincere thanks to all the help I received from honorable members, seniors, mentors, teachers and friends during my tenure in successfully, satisfactorily and gracefully completing my ofce tenure.Communications regarding all the activities and events of the ssbasicc were done to members by email, Whatsapp message and on the website. We formed various whatsappGroups involving EC members, postgraduates and Heads of the Surgery departments for efcient communication. The progress was critically reviewed in the subsequent EC meetings every month, so as to rene & remain efcient and grow further.

Prof. B.N. Balakrishna Rao's memorial oration

The prestigious Prof. B.N. Balakrishna Rao oration was

delivered by DrParveen Bhatia- Chairman, Institute of

Minimal Access Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, Institute of

Robotic Surgery(IRS), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.

The topic was “There is safety in More Safety”and was well applauded by 200 plus members present during the celebration.

We honored two legendary senior surgeons on the occasion of Surgeon's Day celebration. Dr S B Belani. & Dr M G Bhat.

PROF. B. HANUMAIAH'S MEMORIAL NATIONAL CSEP 2019Venue : The entire CSEP program was conducted at auditorium of M S Ramaiah Medical College Hospital Campus. M S Ramaiah Medical College management, HOD & staff of dept of surgery and students kindheartedly helped us throughout the program from 24 to 29rd November 2019. We changed the whole patern of topics to clinical orientation i.e. practical exam cases as case scenario, this was liked by all the pg delegates and was successfull. 410 students registered for the CSEP from various institutes across south India.

THA) WORKSHOP ON BASIC SURGICAL SKILL TRAINING: Pre conference workshop on 24 Sunday was conducted at the M S Ramaiah Medical College Hospital Campus. It was sponsored by Ethicon institute of surgical training. About 45 delegates were trained in both the open surgical and laparoscopic skills.

thquiz masters for the KSCASI SQ 2019on 27 t Nov 2019.

My special thanks & congratulations to Dr C S Rajan for conducting this exemplary quiz 17 years in a row.The preliminaryround was held during the lunch

time and seminal and nal was held from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm. The quiz program was

attended by Chief Guests –DR VIDYADHAR KINHAL, Chairman, KSCASI, Dr DIVAKAR GADDI, Hon Sec ASI,

We honored our legendary senior surgeon Dr T H Anjanappa on the occasion of recipient of Karnataka Rajyotsava Award

from the Govt of Karnataka, Bengaluru for year 2019.

The anchors of CSEP- Dr T H Anjanappa, Dr C S Rajan, Dr K Lakshman, Dr H V Shivaram, Dr M R Sreevathsa, Dr hanumanthaiah and DR Kalaivani V guided the PGs during clinical sessions on all the days.(The external faculty of eminent surgeons and post graduate examiners from surrounding states and inside the state were evaluating the PG presentations).Nearly 32 cases of exam oriented practical clinical cases were presented by the PG students after examining the patients(like in real exams).24 exam oriented clinical cases as case scenarios were presented by the eminent expert, speciality/ super speciality surgeons from the city and the state. Nearly 13 institutes/ Hospitals of Bengaluru along with the private surgeons of Bengaluru were involved in this clinical case presentations.The entire CSEP- specialist lectures, clinical presentation and discussion, interactive sessions of various specialties, the venue, food and hospitality were rated as Good/Excellent by the delegates.

I thank all the senior surgeons, Executive Committee Members, teachers and beloved colleagues for their wholehearted support. My special thanks to the president Dr. Aravind Gubbi and President Elect Dr Kalaivani V for their constant support and encouragement.
