• The court is the highest appellate court in WI and has jurisdiction over original actions.

• Appeals from lower courts, and regulation or administration of the practice of the law.

• Seven justices who all serve a ten year term. Only one justice may be elected in any year

Court decisions

• Bargaining rights for unions being limited in the new state budget was ruled constitutional by the Wisconsin Supreme Court after much conflict. Ruled 4 to 3 after a close election for a supreme court seat that may have changed the decision.

• Wisconsin v. Mitchell-A man named Todd Mitchell beat a white boy on the street and caused him to be in a coma for four days. The Circuit Court for Kenosha County sentenced him for 7 years of imprisonment. The case than went to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
