P4's FASTEL Wireless communications

system is an exciting development that

enables fully addressable self testing

emergency lighting to be installed in all types

of premises without the need for the luminaires

to be linked together with data cabling.

FASTEL Wireless is an ideal solution in

premises and areas in which it is difficult to

install additional wiring, such as heritage

buildings, buildings that are continuously

occupied or in which access is difficult,

buildings or areas with solid ceilings, also in

buildings or areas that are separated.

It may be more cost effective to install a

FASTEL Wireless solution rather than adding

communications wiring to existing installations.

The replacement of existing key switch

emergency lighting installations with a

P4 has been at the forefront of designinnovation, manufacturing and supply ofpioneering, self testing emergency lightingand exit signs across the United Kingdomand beyond for more than 20 years

FASTEL Wireless system can often also be

proved cost effective with a payback on the

investment achieved typically within 2-3 years.

The FASTEL Wireless range of luminaires and

signs are suitable for almost all interior and

external applications and environments. P4's

industry standard Quatrum LED range of

luminaires are all available as FASTEL

Wireless versions and take emergency lighting

to new levels. This means safer evacuation

along escape routes and through open areas,

in the most extreme conditions.

P4's market leading, fully automatic, self

testing FASTEL emergency lighting technology

ensures that when emergency lighting

luminaires and fire safety signs are installed

they will be automatically tested on a regular

basis, without manual intervention. Fully

automatic, self testing ensures that the

occupier of premises complies with their legal

obligations under the Regulatory Reform (Fire

Safety) Order 2005

FW-Web GatewayThe FW-Web Gateway is the central controller and interfacerequired for all FASTEL wireless monitored automatic self testingemergency lighting systems.

Able to monitor up to 250 FASTEL wireless enabled self containedluminaires or signs, the FW-Web Gateway unit incorporates atouch screen controller to enable access to set up individual testtimes and days as well as interrogation of the connectedluminaires and signs. Connection of more than 250 luminaires andsigns requires additional FW-IR Routers to be connected into theFW-Web Gateway unit.

The FW-Web Gateway has an in-built web server to enable controlof the installation through an existing LAN structure and its ownin-built power supply.

Any connected PC, laptop, tablet or mobile device with access tothe LAN can log into the FW-Web Gateway and either view up todate monitoring information or carry out administration on thesystem.

The operation of each connected emergency lighting luminaire orsign is totally independent of the supervision carried out by theFW-Web Gateway unit. Even in case of communication failure,emergency lighting operation is assured.

Housed in a grey IP54 ABS enclosure, the FW-Web Gateway isnormally mounted in a service duct or riser in an accessiblelocation so that the touch screen incorporated into its front facecan be accessed.

Connection is required to a local fused spur and also to a LAN.

Each additional network of up to 250 luminaires and signs requiresa FW-IR router to connect wirelessly to the luminaires. LED illumination provides substantial energy savings over bothtungsten halogen and fluorescent light sources. How it works

A microprocessor within the FASTEL wireless inverter or driver moduleautomatically self tests in excess of the requirements of the BSEN 50172 /BS 5266 Pt.8.

Seven days after an uninterrupted mains supply is connected, the unitundertakes a functional test of the charger, battery and lamp andchecking the general operation of the luminaire or sign.

Every seventh day thereafter a further 30 second functional test checksthe charger operation and that the emergency lamp operates from thebattery.

Every 52nd week, luminaires will automatically a functional check of thecharger, battery and lamp and also carry out a duration test to ensurethat the battery capacity continues to be adequate to operate theluminaire or sign for the full rated duration period.

Once the mains supply is reconnected after an interruption of greaterthan 5 minutes, the battery will be fully recharged for 24 hours and thetest cycle will resume.

A test cannot be carried out within 24 hours of the previous test oramains failure exceeding 5 minutes.

The test time of Individual luminaires can be programmed from theFW-Gateway ubiut to ensure that adjacent units can not testsimultaneously, all test sequences are programmed into the integralmicroprocessor controllers.

P4 FASTEL prductsIn order to ensure compliance with the requirements of theRegulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 which demandsregular testing of luminaires and signs in accordance with BS5266 part 8: 2004, all P4 FASTEL emergency lighting luminaires,signs and conversions of mains lighting luminaires incorporatefully automatic self testing facilities.

Available in a stand alone version and two remote monitoringand control system versions, P4’s FASTEL products and systemsrepresent the ultimate in reliable, cost effective self testingemergency lighting technology.

FASTEL technology versions are:

FASTEL - Stand alone fully automatic self testing emergency lighting

P4 FASTEL stand alone technology is the simplest format andis ideally suited for existing premises requiring upgrades, newpremises with less than 50 emergency lights and premises whichare routinely unmanned.

Emergency lights, conversions and signs are equipped withFASTEL self test inverters or drivers. In addition to operating theproduct into which they are fitted in case of genuine mains failure,these control modules automatically perform a fully automaticself testing routine as described in the previous section, whichexceeds the minimum test requirements demanded by BS 5266by a minimum of between 12 and 36 times, without any interventionby staff.

In the event of a failure to perform to specification, clear visual andaudible signals are generated on fittings. This clearly indicatesthe nature of the failure to untrained staff so that they can contactmaintenance staff to promptly rectify the indicated fault.

FASTELink - remotely monitored, computer addressable fullyautomatic self testing emergency lighting

Internet/intranet linked through the P4 M-web or M-web+ ethernetinterface with integrated web server and supervision unit,FASTELink remotely monitored, computer addressable systemsallow central premises /estates departments to check satellitesites from any computer with LAN access.

A FASTELink computer addressable emergency lighting systemis ideal for all installations of 50 emergency lighting fittings, upto a maximum capacity of 7,875 fittings. With the benefits of theFASTEL stand alone fully automatic self testing, but with themajor advantage that the status of all emergency lighting fittingsis reported to any computer with access to the LAN to which theyare connected. Maintaining a large emergency lighting installationcan be managed very easily and cost effectively with a P4FASTELink system.

FASTEL Wireless

With all the benefits of FASTELink technology, FASTEL Wireless has theadded advantage of wireless communication between emergency lightingluminaires and signs and the data collection points. connected to theinternet/intranet through the FW-Web Gateway ethernet interface withintegrated web-server and supervision unit, FASTEL wireless installationscan be viewed and integrated through an app that will run in MS Windowsor IOS environments.

FASTEL Wireless technology is ideally suited to retro fitting of emergencylighting monitoring in place of key switch testing arrangements orinstallation in locations where installing communications wiring will bedifficult or expensive. Up to 62,000 fittings can be monitored through a fullyexpanded FASTEL Wireless system.

Test times and days can be set locally as required on the FW-WebGateway touch sensitive display and test records are retained on amicro-SD card that can be downloaded onto a computer for analysis andcompliance.
