What is Bluetooth wirelesstechnology?Bluetooth™ wireless technology isa short-range wireless technologythat enables wireless datacommunication between digitaldevices, such as a computer ordigital camera. Bluetooth wirelesstechnology operates within a rangeof about 10 meters (about 30 feet).Connecting two devices asnecessary is common, but somedevices can be connected tomultiple devices at the same time.You do not need to use a cable forconnection, nor is it necessary forthe devices to face one another, suchis the case with infrared technology.For example, you can use such adevice in a bag or pocket.Bluetooth standard is aninternational standard supported bythousands of companies all over theworld, and employed by variouscompanies worldwide.

Communication Systemand Compatible BluetoothProfiles of this unitProfile is standardization of thefunction for each Bluetooth devicespecification. This unit supports thefollowing Bluetooth version andprofiles:

Notes• To be able to use the Bluetooth

1 Connect the suppliedAC power adaptor withthe battery chargingstand.

3 Put the unit on thebattery charging stand.

Rest the unit on the batterycharging stand so that the unit’scontact point meets the contactpin on the battery charging stand,and make sure that the indicator(red) lights up.

Charging is completed in about2.5 hours* and the indicator (red)goes off automatically.

* Time required for empty battery torecharge.

NoteWhen you attach the strap to this unit,do not let the strap get caught betweenthe unit and the battery charging stand.

Tips• If the AC power adaptor is connected to

an AC outlet while the unit is turned on,the unit will be turned off automatically.

• This unit cannot be turned on whilecharging.

CautionIf this unit detects a problem whilecharging, the indicator (red) mayturn off, although charging is notcomplete.Check for the following causes:– Ambient temperature exceeds the

range of 0 °C – 40 °C (32 °F –104 °F).

– There is a problem with thebattery.

In this case, charge again within theabove-mentioned temperature range.If the problem persists, consult yournearest Sony dealer.

Notes• If the battery is not used for a long time,

battery may be quickly depleted,however, after a few recharges, batterylife will improve.

• If the life of the built-in rechargeablebattery drops to half the normal length,the battery should be replaced. Consultyour nearest Sony dealer forreplacement of the rechargeable battery.

• Avoid exposure to temperatureextremes, direct sunlight, moisture,sand, dust or mechanical shock. Neverleave in a car parked in the sun.

• Use only the supplied AC poweradaptor. Do not use any other ACpower adaptor.

Procedures of pairing

1 Place the Bluetoothdevice within 1 m (3 ft)of this unit.

2 Press and hold thePOWER button for7 seconds or more tostandby for pairingwhile the unit is turnedoff.

Notes• After about 3 seconds, power is

turned on and the indicator (blue)and indicator (red) flash togethertwice. Keep the POWER buttonpressed without releasing. Theindicator (blue) starts flashing.When both indicators start flashingtogether again, release the button.This unit enters into pairing mode.

• If pairing is not established withinabout 5 minutes, pairing mode willbe cancelled and this unit will turnoff. In this case, start over fromstep 1.

PairingWhat is pairing?

Bluetooth devices need to be“paired” with each otherbeforehand.Once Bluetooth devices are paired,there is no need for pairing again,except in the following cases:• Pairing information is deleted

after repair, etc.• This unit is paired with 9 or more

devices.This unit can be paired with up to8 devices; if a new device ispaired after 8 devices have beenpaired, the device whose latestconnection time is the oldestamong the 8 paired devices isreplaced by the new one.

• When recognition of the unit bythe device to be connected isdeleted.

• This unit is initialized (page 26).All pairing information is deleted.

3 Perform pairingprocedure on theBluetooth device todetect this unit.The list of detected devicesappears on the display of theBluetooth device. This unit isdisplayed as “DRC-BT15.”If “DRC-BT15” is notdisplayed, repeat from step 1.

Notes• For details, refer to the operating

instructions supplied with theBluetooth device.

• When pairing with a Bluetoothdevice that cannot display a list ofdetected devices or that has nodisplay, you may pair the device bysetting both this unit and theBluetooth device to pairing mode.At this time, if passcode is setbesides “0000” on the Bluetoothdevice, pairing cannot be done withthis unit.

4 Select “DRC-BT15” onthe display of theBluetooth device.

5 If Passcode* input isrequired on the displayof a Bluetooth device,input “0000.”Pairing is complete when theindicator (blue) flashes slowly.The message standing for“Pairing complete” appears onthe display of some Bluetoothdevices.

* Passcode may be called “Passkey,”“PIN code,” “PIN number,” or“Password.”

6 Start the Bluetoothconnection from theBluetooth device.This unit memorizes the deviceas the last connected device.Some Bluetooth devices mayconnect with the unitautomatically when pairing iscomplete.

Tips• To pair with other Bluetooth devices,

repeat steps 1 to 5 for each device.• To delete all pairing information, see

“Initializing the unit” (page 26).

3 Connect theheadphones (notsupplied) to this unit.

4 Clip this unit to apocket, etc., of yourclothes and then wearthe headphones.Wear the earphone marked L inyour left ear, and the onemarked R in your right ear.

When using the clip1 While pinching the lever

at the end of the clip(supplied), hold the clipacross the unit asshown, then insert theclip into the clip hole.

2 While pinching thelever, turn the unitcounterclockwise.When the lever is released, theclip is locked to prevent it fromcoming off.

Listening to musicWhen not calling with this unit, donot make the last connectedBluetooth device ready for HFP orHSP connection. To make orreceive a call while playing backmusic, see page 20.

2 Make the Bluetoothconnection (A2DP) froma Bluetooth device tothis unit.Refer to the operatinginstructions supplied with theBluetooth device on how tooperate it.

3 Start playback on theBluetooth device.

TipBluetooth connection of A2DP(Advanced Audio Distribution Profile)can also be operated with the jog switchfrom this unit to the Bluetooth deviceexcept when making a call on this unit.

Notes• When you play music by connecting the

unit to a Bluetooth device using HSP(Headset Profile), sound quality will notbe high. For better sound, change theBluetooth connection to A2DP byoperating the Bluetooth device.

• If this unit is turned off while an A2DPBluetooth connection is established,operate the unit again from step 1 tomake the A2DP Bluetooth connectionagain.

Tips• Depending on the connected device, it

may be necessary to adjust the volumeon the connected device as well.

• Volume for calling and listening tomusic can be adjusted independently.Even if you change the volume whilecalling, the volume for music playbackdoes not change.

To stop use

1 Terminate the Bluetoothconnection by operatingthe Bluetooth device.

2 Press and hold thePOWER button forabout 3 seconds.The indicator (blue) andindicator (red) light up together,and the unit turns off.

TipWhen you finish playing music, theBluetooth connection may terminateautomatically, depending on theBluetooth device.

Controlling the audiodevice – AVRCP

If the Bluetooth audio deviceconnected with this unit supportsAVRCP (Audio Video RemoteControl Profile), you can control byusing the unit buttons.Refer to the operating instructionssupplied with the Bluetooth deviceon how to operate it.

NoteOperation of the Bluetooth connectingdevice by this unit will vary depending onits specification.

NoteWhen listening to music with this unit, aBluetooth connection cannot be madewith the multi function button.

To call

1 Use the buttons on yourmobile phone whenmaking a call.If no dial tone is heard on thisunit, press and hold the multifunction button for about 2seconds.

TipYou can call in the following way,depending on the Bluetooth mobilephone. Refer to the manual supplied withyour mobile phone on operating details.– When not communicating, you can call

using the voice-dial function bypressing the multi function button.

– You can call the last dialed number bypressing the multi function button forabout 2 seconds.

Calling while playing back musicThe Bluetooth connection using HFP or HSP as well as A2DP is necessaryto make a call while playing back music.For example, to make a call using a Bluetooth mobile phone while listeningto music on a Bluetooth compatible music player, this unit needs to beconnected to the mobile phone using HFP or HSP.

Make a Bluetooth connection between this unit and thedevice in use following the procedures outlined below.

1 Make a Bluetooth connection between this unit andthe mobile phone in use with HFP or HSP followingthe procedures outlined in “Calling” (see page 17).

2 Operate the Bluetooth device (music player or mobilephone) used for playing the music to make aBluetooth connection to this unit using A2DP.

¿Qué es elemparejamiento?

Los dispositivos Bluetooth deben“emparejarse” previamente entre sí.Una vez que los dispositivosBluetooth se han emparejado, no esnecesario volver a hacerlo exceptoen los casos siguientes:• La información de

emparejamiento se elimina trasuna reparación, etc.

• La unidad está emparejada con 9dispositivos o más.Esta unidad se puede emparejarhasta con 8 dispositivos; si seempareja un noveno dispositivo,éste reemplazará al más antiguode los 8 restantes.

• Cuando se elimina elreconocimiento de la unidad en eldispositivo que desea conectar.

• Se ha inicializado esta unidad(página 26).Se elimina toda la información deemparejamiento.
