Wipro Limited (Western India Products Limited) is a multinational IT consulting and System Integration services company headquartered in Bangolore,India.

Azim Premji is chairman and MD of wiprotechnologies

As of March 2014, the company has 146,000 employees servicing over 900 large enterprise & Fortune 1000 corporations with a presence in 61 countries. On 31 March 2014, its marketcapitalisation was approximately $20.8 billion,

It is one of India's largest publicly traded company and seventh largest IT services firm globally.

The company was incorporated on 29 December

1945, in Mumbai by Mohamed Premji as

'Western India Vegetable Products Limited’.

later abbreviated to 'Wipro'. It was initially set up

as a manufacturer of vegetable and refined

oils in Amalner,district Jalgaon, Maharashtra,

under the trade names of Kisan, Sunflower and

Camel.

The company logo still contains a sunflower to

reflect products of the original business.

In the year 1966 Azim Premji took over the

leadership of company and transformed Wipro into

consumer goods company.

In 1975 Wipro fluid power was set up.

1980 moved into softwere development.

Wipro Ltd is a global company provider of

comprehensive IT solution and services including

systems integration, consulting information system

outsourcing, IT enabled services and R&D

services.

WIPRO ENTERPRISES Ltd consumer care and

lighting, a business unit of Wipro Ltd operates in

the FMCG segment offering a wide range of

consumable commodities includes products like

smartlite CFL, LED, emergency lights and more.

To serve customers with integrity through

Wipro Cares engages with communities in our

proximate locations. The primary objectives of

Wipro Cares is to support the developmental needs

of marginalized communities in cities and towns

where Wipro has a larger presence.

Wipro Cares is currently engaged in 12 projects

across India. Through its five health

care projects in three states of India. Wipro Cares

is providing more than 50000 people, access to

primary health care.

Through the ‘Applying thought in schools’

initiative we have engaged with more than 1000

schools, 10000 educators and 30 social

organisations across 17 states in the country to

bring about educational reform.

Mission 10X aims at enhancing employability of

Wipros Engineering graduates by empowering

faculty members. Having thus far trained over

10,000 faculty members across 20 states, the

initiative tends to now reach out over 25,000

additional engineering faculties in the near future.

Project in social forestry has helped

plant more than 50000 trees and has at the same

time provided livelihood to around 40 farmers.

Energy efficiency - 25% improvement in energy

efficiency in the last 6 years due to

adoption of green building standards based

on LED framework

44% reduction in use of printing paper through

effective automated controls and behavioral

changes.

Water efficiency

32% of water requirement met through water

recycling and harvesting.

Waste management

Four biogas plants convert food waste to cooking

fuel

translating into a net reduction of 100 tons per

annum.

Wipro care- adopted pushpavanam village in

Tsunami-ravaged belt of Tamil nadu.

Earlier work – Orissa – cyclone in 1999, Gujrat –

earthquke in 2001,Bihar floods 2008, Karanatka

floods 2009

SITUATION : Large amount of solid waste on

daily basis at Wipro’s Electronic City Campus.

Opportunity : Manage solid waste.

Eco-Solution : BIO-MANTHANATION plant,

currently 4 Biogas plants are operated by Wipro.

Eco Imapct : Large amount of bio-gas and good

quality manure is generated, sludge and treated in

eco friendly manner.

Situation : Harsh chemical used

Opportunity : Chemicals to have Eco friendly

property.

Eco-Solution : Use of non pollutants Bio

degradable etc.

Eco-Impact : Reduced exposure to harmful

chemicals.
