Wintertime by Charles Mee

My first job as a director is to find a script of Wintertime by Charles Mee that I will use in the production of the play

Script

Once I have chosen the script, I must find the “spine” of the play, or the main action that pushes or drives the play. The spine of this play would have to be the suspicion and argument started by Maria towards Francois and the following arguments followed by everyone else.

Spine

After finding the “spine” of the play, I must must choose what style the play will be. Styles include realism, naturalism, realism, expressionism, and many others. For Wintertime, I chose a realistic style, a style that a real life style toward the characters and set, because it would suit the wintertime at the summerhouse scene very well.

Style

Once I have chosen the spine and style of the play, I must collaborate with the costume, set, and light designers to create and design costumes, sets, and lighting designs that suit the style of play chosen

Collaboration

After collaborating with the designers, I have to cast and choose performers that would fit well into each role in the play.

Casting

Since the cast has now been chosen, rehearsals must begin. The cast and crew will need to rehearse to familiarize themselves with the script and the flow of the play.

Rehearsal

After all the hard work of finding a script, finding the spine, choosing a style, collaborating with designers, casting the crew, and rehearsing the play, the play is finally ready to be presented.
