ASE Program OverviewFounded in 1990, the Apprenticeships in Science & Engineering (ASE) program was designed to address a growing concern over our nation’s future technical and scientific workforce. ASE has grown from a pilot program of six student interns to 150 interns in 2018. The program has provided more than 4,000 students with hands-on, project-based, eight-week internships with practicing professionals in science and engineering disciplines. Mentoring organizations include universities, hospitals, research institutions and private companies throughout Oregon and SW Washington. Student interns follow a rigorous application, interview and selection process and complete 296 hours under mentor supervision.

ASE engages high school students in STEM fields by providing them with:

• a mentor • a competitive application

process

• a comprehensive orientation and training program

• Real-world internship experience

• a tangible career path
