PREPARATIONI did not seal this wood piece, but if you’re accus-tomed to, then do. I dampened my wood with water, and then I applied Winter Blue, Williamsburg Blue,

and Blue Chiff on. I applied these colors all over the surface, softening them together where they met. Occasionally, I would dip the tip of my brush in water just enough to help me move and blend the paint. Allow to dry and sand lightly across your surface. You want to get rid of the fuzzies. Wipe with your tack cloth. Spatter your surface with Warm White. Some-times I use scrapbook stamps to add more interest to the background. On this piece, I used a stamp with script wording on it. It really doesn’t show a lot, but makes your piece more interesting. Allow to dry and trace your pattern on.

GingerbreadBasecoat Honey Brown. Repeat as needed. Float Light Cinnamon on each side of his face. I left the chin area plain. Float or dry brush the cheeks Deep Burgundy. When dry, fl oat or dry rush Bosenberry Pink on the top half of the Deep Burgundy. Float or dry brush Tomato Red on the bottom half of the Deep Burgundy. Add a tiny Warm White dot to each cheek. The eyes are a sideload fl oat using Dark Choc-olate. Keep the dark side to the left fading your color into the background on the right. Without cleaning your brush, pick up Lamp Black and fl oat over the Dark Chocolate not covering it completely. Outline the left of each eye Lamp Black. Add a Warm White highlight dot to each eye. The nose is Tomato Red, shaded Deep Burgundy. Add a Warm White highlight dot to it. His smile is Antique Maroon. The frosting on top of his head is Warm White, shaded Winter Blue. Float Dark Chocolate shading under the frosting. The cherry is Tomato Red, shaded Deep Burgundy to Antique Maroon. Highlight Boysenberry Pink. Add a Warm White highlight dot. The stem is Hauser Medium Green. The frosting on each side of his face is Light Buttermilk.

SnowmenBasecoat Warm White. Repeat as needed. On the last coat, pick up Winter Blue and shade the sides of their head. Their eyes are painted like the gingerbread. Float or dry brush their cheeks fi rst with Poodleskirt Pink. Touch their lower lip with this color also. Their smile line is Boysenberry Pink. Float Boysenberry pink next to their smile. Don’t fl oat this out into their cheeks too much. Their nose is Tangelo Orange. Shaded Tangelo Orange plus a tad of Tomato Red. The swirl on top of their head is Warm White.

RibbonLoad your brush in Tomato Red, and sideload it in Peaches n’ Cream. Work back and forth on your palette to blend. I like for this to go a little more toward a pink color. Float this on the upper area of each ribbon, and fi lling in the lower area with Tomato Red. Repeat if needed. When you’re fi nished with this step, sideload the Glaze Wash brush in Williamsburg Blue and fl oat a shadow under the ribbon, snowmen, and Gingerbread.

LeavesThe leaves are stroke leaves using Hauser Medium Green, Foliage Green, and Plantation Pine.

DetailAdd Warm White snow on top of the ribbon. The ties are Lamp Black, and the snowfl akes are Warm White. The lettering is Lamp Black.

Scroll TopThis would look good in red as well as any other color, but black is what I chose because it goes getter with my decorating. Spatter with Warm White and add snow in various places.

FINISHINGSpray varnish a couple of times, allowing to dry in be-tween coats.
