Tall Ship Cruise: War of 1812-14 Aftermath: Celebrating 200 Years of Peace, 1815-2015 The Treaty of Ghent, signed on December 24th, 1814 and ratified on February 17th, 1815, officially marked the end of the War of 1812 - a war between Britain and the United States that lasted two and a half years and is still viewed as one of the bloodiest military conflicts in history. Although the initial years following the war’s end had many unforeseen ramifications and disputes involving boundaries, Native peoples, disarmament and more, the winter of 1815 witnessed the establishment of a separate existence in North America of the future Canada, and the beginning of 200 years of peace between two remarkable nations. Noted historian, professor and author Wesley Turner will guide you along this historic journey which will embark from Port Dalhousie, East Pier, at 10:30 a.m. (boarding time 10:00 a.m.), and will include refreshments upon boarding, a full-course meal in the mid-afternoon, and dessert and coffee/tea.
