Fun basketball games will be played to teach the importance of each skill learned. Our foundation technique focuses on basic mechanics to build confidence, then adding larger challenges as we progress. Footwork is an extremely important aspect of the game. This means no players will be sitting! We will work on dribbling with both hands, passing and shooting techniques, and understanding basic offense and defense. All of our programs are based on learning teamwork and sportsmanship. Min 6/Max 14

Dear River Forest Residents:

Welcome to the River Forest Park District’s 2015 Winter-Spring Fun Guide! Please browse through the Guide and try one of the many programs the Park District has to offer.

Platform Tennis Season is Here

As the temperatures drop and the snow begins to fall, our Platform Tennis season begins. The River Forest Park District is currently offering memberships and lessons at our platform tennis facility. New this year, we are offering travel platform tennis where our members get to play competitive paddle tennis at other platform tennis facilities. Due to the size and capacity of the facility, the Park District is only able to offer a limited number of memberships, so I encourage you to join early. For more information on membership and league information, please go the front inside cover of this Fun Guide.

Priory North Path Project

Work will begin this Spring on the development of a new asphalt path running around the north end of Priory Park. The new path will allow our residents additional walking and jogging path options in the park and allow our police improved access into the northeast corner of the park.

Parks Foundation Sustainability Committee

Congratulations to our Parks Foundation for stepping up to lead our community’s green initiatives. The River Forest Parks Foundation and the Village of River Forest have entered into an agreement for the Parks Foundation to serve as a Village Advisory Committee on green sustainability issues. This collaborative effort was recognized by the Oak Park River Forest Community Foundation with a $6,600 grant to support the initative. Thank you to Sue Crothers and the entire Parks Foundation Board for all their hard work. Please go to www.rfparks.com to find out more about our Parks Foundation.

Park District Documents Available to View Online

The Park District is continually posting Reporting, Financial, and Strategic Planning documents on the River Forest Park District website. Documents currently available for viewing include: the 2013-2014 Audit, the 2013-2014 Annual Report, the 2014-2015 Budget, and the 2013 Strategic Plan.

Park Board Election is April 7, 2015

One (1) six-year seat and one (1) four-year seat on the Park District Board are up for election on April 7, 2015. Nominating petitions are available at the Park District offices at 401 Thatcher, Monday – Friday, or on the Illinois State Board of Elections website at www.elections.state.il.us. oil painting without drawingAges: 18 & up; beginner to advanced artistsThis workshop teaches an easy-to-learn method of placing shapes into canvas in the correct tone and color, allowing you to paint any subject well, without the use of drawing. Correct proportions will occur automatically as a result of painting tones and shapes. A logical approach to color mixing is taught, enabling you to accurately analyze and match any color. This unique non-drawing, tonal painting system is believed to be the same method used by Sargent, Velazquez, and Rembrandt to produce their greatest works. The subject may be different, but the same method applies to all – portrait, landscape, or still life. By learning how to “see” as the painter sees, you will be able to paint what is actually before you.Min 4/Max 8

Lightning Prediction SystemThe lightning detection system is located at Keystone, Constitution, Centennial, and Priory Parks. It

will be operational from April through November, 8:00 am-10:00 pm daily.

When conditions indicate that a lightning occurrence is probable, a signal is sent to the horns located

in the parks providing an 8-15 minute warning to clear the area

and seek safe shelter.

The warning system will be tested the first Tuesday of each operating month at 10:35 am,

immediately following the test of the Village Civil Defense Warning

Siren.
