PARTY TIME!

It’s a little early in the year to know the exact dates, but we do plan to have a pool party this summer and a Block party in early Fall. We will keep you posted on dates and times in future newsletters.

YARD OF THE MONTH

The Yard of the Month contest is scheduled to begin in June. The Board will award yard signs and $30 gift cards to the prettiest and best groomed lawns in each section. We will be doing this June, July and August, usually the first part of the month. Many homeowners put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into their yards and we love being able to reward you for your efforts! Thank you for making New Glenwood Park so welcoming!

CHRISTMAS LIGHTING CONTEST

This is always a fun contest and we are never disappointed! The winners this past Christmas were 3324 Amulet, 3414 Delray and 5421 Glenrose. Thanks for the festive displays! We will do this again in December.

NEW GLENWOOD PARK GENERAL MEETINGAlthough a long ways off, we just wanted to let you know the date of our General Meeting, It will be October 17th at 7 PM at the Hession Center at St Charles Church. There will be more information in future newsletters. This is the meeting where we discuss and vote on the budget for the following year. If you want your voice heard or have concerns and issues you want to bring up, please try to attend this meeting. If you can’t make it, give one of your Board members a call and tell us what’s on your mind. We represent YOU and will make sure your concern is brought up at the meeting.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS cont'd

The City of Fort Wayne has identified certain neighborhoods that have extremely uneven sidewalks. Because of the hazards these sidewalks pose to residents and walkers, a plan has been approved to repair the slabs that are in the worse shape. New Glenwood Park is on the list and the city will be out this year to shave the sidewalks that are in bad shape. This process should help to level out those areas.

BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE

Even though we are well into winter, there are still leaves falling and collecting in our yards and streets. The city has completed the loose leaf pick up but if you are still raking, put the leaves in the brown yard waste bags and call 311. They will pick up the leaves at your curb if they are bagged. If you notice dead leaves blocking the sewer drains, please try to remove them (if possible). Not a pleasant job but it might help the drains work more efficiently.

The biggest expense in our budget is snowplowing. We have a contract with a local company to plow and clear our streets when there is 3 or more inches of snow . PLEASE TRY TO HAVE YOUR VEHICLES OFF THE STREETS AND IN YOUR DRIVEWAY WHEN A SNOW IS ANTICIPATED. It is much easier to plow the streets when there are no obstacles and it is less likely your vehicle will be blocked by plowed snow. This year we also bought barrels for salt. The city of Fort Wayne will keep the containers supplied with the salt. Please use accordingly for intersections or street corners that are particularly slick or difficult to maneuver because of the snow. As a homeowner, you are responsible for keeping your sidewalks cleared. It might be a good idea to know if your neighbor needs help and then do theirs as well!

CITILINK FUTURE PLANS

As our city grows, our city planners are looking ahead and anticipating changes that may need to be made to our bus system. This would include providing more service and changing and /or adding routes. Every five to ten years, Citilink completes a process of updating the Transit Development Plan (TDP). The purpose of the plan Is to assess the state of the current system, review where further development is expected to occur, and identify service changes to enhance the choices people have in getting to/from work, school, shopping, medical appointments or simply visiting family and friends. If you would like more information please contact Betsy Kachmar, Asst. General Manager Citilink. [email protected]
