San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital ispleased to report that its new construction isreally beginning to take shape.

"The construction projects on the hospi-tal campus are being completed according tothe Master Site Plan, which was approved bythe City of Banning in 2007,” said KayLang, Project Manager.

Work on the Emergency Departmentand Intensive Care Unit building is wellunderway, with the exterior building sealed, and the roof, window frames and glassinstalled to provide a water-tight building.Exterior wall elements will be applied asweather permits.

“Our first patient care building, with a23-private room Emergency Department, five rapid care treatment areas, and a 16-bedprivate room Intensive Care Unit, will becompleted next year,” Lang said.

The second floor ICU’s interior drywallhas been installed, and installation of above-ceiling fire sprinklers, plumbing, mechanicaland electrical systems began this month. Theinterior work on the first floor ED follows

the ICU construction, as scheduled, as crewswork from top to bottom.

“The majority of the campus infrastruc-ture improvements have been made and ournew Central Plant is supplying the hospitalwith power, water and emergency generator

backup; it has been designed to accommo-date all future buildings as well,” said Lang.

The first coat of asphalt paving on theservice road and parking lot is complete. Afinal coat will be applied prior to the

ED/ICU building opening.“The community can be very proud of

these new facilities, which will serve our areafor decades to come,” Lang said.

Measure D, a parcel tax created to support the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital’sEmergency medical care, expires this year. This parcel tax helps keep the ER fully functionaland staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing critical emergency services to the resi-dents of Banning, Beaumont, Cherry Valley, Calimesa, Cabazon and surrounding unincorpo-rated communities.

“Ten years ago, shortly after the tragic events of September 11, our community passedMeasure D, a modest parcel tax to provide supplemental funding to keep the San GorgonioMemorial Hospital ER open and fully operational for local residents,” said Dr. Ludwig Cibelli,an emergency room physician. “That decision was, and still is, the right decision for our com-munity.”

In May, a request to extend Measure D will appear on a ballot measure to HospitalDistrict voters. There is no change expected in the tax rate, and the extension would allowMeasure D funding to continue for another 10 years.

“The proposed ballot measure does not raise tax rates,” said Mark Turner, San GorgonioMemorial Hospital CEO. “It would simply extend the current Measure D parcel tax that vot-ers are already paying.”

“Measure D costs local property owners less than $50 per year. This is a modest invest-Continued on page 4

The San GorgonioMemorial Hospital'sRadiology departmenthas gone digital, including digitalmammography.

The hospital isusing the latest state-of-the-art technologythat provides moreclarity, better detail, and results that can bereviewed quickly.

“Digital mammography allows radiologists to spot abnormalities that mayotherwise not be detected by the naked eye, providing diagnostic accuracy thatis two to three times higher than analog magnification,” said Ranilo Blasco,Director of Diagnostic Imaging.

“The accessibility of digital images, which can be sent over the internetwithin minutes, also means that patients can get into treatment four to fivetimes faster, since we don’t have to wait for conventional films to be read.”

With this new technology, community members no longer need to traveloutside of the area to have digital mammograms.

Digital is also better for the environment because the hospital no longerneeds to store and use chemicals to process radiology films.

New Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) When it comes to fast, quality service, San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital

offers MRI scans on-site with our high-speed Echo Planar G.E. 1.5 Tesla MRIequipment.

The MRI offers superior image detail and resolution, plus additional patientcomfort, right in our community.

“We provide local care with a quick turnaround,” said Ranilo Blasco,Director of Diagnostic Imaging.

Referrals are done within two days, Blasco said, and in some instances, patients can receive same-day service.

“In Radiology, our reports are back within 24 hours, guaranteed,” Blascosaid.

The MRI machine gives off-view and off-field extremity imaging, and isespecially useful in looking at the brain, heart, and other soft tissue organs.
