The end of 2017 marks three straight years delivering 25% profitable growth. During this period, we have doubled revenues and driven through significant organisational change, positioning Global Lingo as a world leader in content globalisation and localisation. We have achieved this with a laser-like focus on customer retention and the acquisition of new business in sectors where Global Lingo can grow organically and demonstrate real value.

Our Company highlights from 2017

Establishing a leadership position in the Learning and Technology sector. We continue to onboard new customers and look for improved ways to manage projects - working with multiple stakeholders to incorporate linguistic preferences, provide robust quality assurance methods, and deliver to ever-challenging timelines. Our agile, creative approach to project management, coupled with our 2018 technology investment programme, is providing a winning platform by which to support both external e-learning providers and internal company learning and development functions.

Growing our base in Financial Services. 2017 saw Global Lingo secure increased professional Minute-Taking business from new customers in Human Resources and Investigation units. Providing formal, objective minutes-style records for employee relations processes, and Legal, Compliance and Risk investigation units, Global Lingo has a 10-year track record delivering concise and accurate official meeting records, in summary and/or verbatim style.

Our Global footprint. With established offices in Chicago (United States of America); Cluj-Napoca (Romania); London (United Kingdom); Singapore (Singapore) and a satellite office in Frankfurt (Germany) we are providing access to Global Lingo Project Managers over a 24-hour cycle. Working on a common global management system we follow the sun to guarantee round the clock delivery and communication.

Our technology development programme. We continue to invest in our technology platform and will be unveiling additional functionalities throughout 2018.

Launch of our new company brand and website. With improved content we will continue this year to make available recent case studies and factsheets outlining our expertise. In addition, we are looking at generating informative content across our Social Media platforms that will both engage and educate our customer base.

Industry recognition in 2017. In July Global Lingo ranked as Number 57 in the top 100 Learning and Development Companies by Now Communications – a London based B2B Marketing Agency. In addition, the Association of Translation Companies, in their published research report, rated Global Lingo as a ‘Top Performer’ among medium-sized companies in the Language Services Industry.

Our achievements over the past year have only been possible due to a phenomenal group of smart, dedicated people that have a passion for language and take real pride in delivering quality content to our customers. Without each and every Global Lingo employee, 2017 would not have been the banner year it was for Global Lingo.

In this edition of the newsletter, we share the employee awards for 2017 making special reference to those employees qualifying for the five-years dedicated service awards, namely Paul Fisker, Kenny Ang and Alex Cadby. Congratulations!

Many thanks for draft minutes which were very well done.

Global Lingo were once again showcasing at the Learning Technologies exhibition and conference (www.learningtechnologies.co.uk) which took place at London’s Olympia on 31st January and 1st February 2018.

This is Europe’s leading Learning and Development event, with more than 8,000 visitors, 150 free seminars, and over 200 exhibitors, all packed into two exhibition halls. Learning Technologies provides a unique opportunity for anyone involved in workplace training to gain an insight into the latest methods, tools, and technologies for delivering an effective learning experience.

Learning Technologies 2018

This year’s show saw record numbers of exhibitors displaying the latest in interactive animation, simulation technology, and virtual reality, from learning to drive a fire engine in an immersive simulator, to crawling, walking, and crouching to fix a satellite in a desert (from the safety of the exhibition hall!).

The 2018 Event was exciting, energetic, and full of brilliant ideas, and proved to be another great year for the Global Lingo team!

Profile: Garrett ConwayHello!

I joined the Global Lingo team as a Project Manager in October 2017. I am very grateful to be part of such an eclectic group of language specialists, writers, editors, polyglots, travelers, managers, and leaders. Being new to the team, I thought I would give you the quick rundown of where I come from and what I hope to bring to this group.

After finishing university in 2010, where I majored in Russian and Philosophy, I had the opportunity to travel to a city in the heart of Siberian Russia: Novosibirsk. I bought a one-way ticket there and started teaching English at a local university.

Having had my fill of the Siberian city’s weather and antics, I ended my sojourn in Novosibirsk and moved to a warmer region of Russia: the Kuban. It was here, in a city named Krasnodar, where I spent most of my time in Russia. Again, I taught English at local schools, and met many new friends, acquaintances, and most importantly, my wife! I now consider Krasnodar as my second home.

Since returning to the US in 2015, I’ve made numerous trips back to the region to see my Russky friends and family. It truly is a great region to visit – the Black Sea beaches are near, the Caucasus mountains are visible on clear days, and the history and culture of the region (a plethora of influences from Circassians, Tatars, Adygeans, Dagestanis, Armenians, Cossacks, Russians, and Ukrainians) are enough to appease any history buff or food junkie – as such, I recommend anyone thinking of visiting Russia to go there!

These years I spent abroad have broadened my view of the world and have sculpted me into a resourceful thinker. I am sure these qualities will transfer well to the Global Lingo team, and I look forward to seeing myself grow in tandem with the company.

До встречи! See ya!

Tip the cabbage into a colander, rinse it thoroughly under cold water, then leave to drain for 30 minutes.

Place the garlic, ginger and sugar in a food processor and blitz to a smooth paste. Transfer it to a bowl and mix in the shrimp paste and gochugaru until combined.

Put the daikon and spring onions into a large bowl. Squeeze out any excess water from the cabbage, then add it to the bowl, along with the gochugaru paste. Wearing disposable gloves, use your hands to mix it all together thoroughly.

Spoon the kimchi into a large kilner jar and press it down so the juices rise, leaving a gap at the top, then close and seal the lid.

Leave the kimchi to ferment at room temperature for 2–5 days. (Place the jar on a plate to catch any brine that might bubble over.) Check the kimchi every day, letting out some gas and pressing the vegetables down into the brine.

When the kimchi tastes delicious, transfer the jar to the fridge. This will keep for up to three months.
