implemented Operation Anvil in 1954 that defeated the rebellion in the city of Nairobi.

• A state funeral service was held at St Paul's Cathedral. The Queen attended the funeral.

• He was buried in the family plot at St Martin's Church, Bladon, not far from Blenheim Palace.
