Whites

4 Gérard & Pierre Morin Sancerre Gérard Morin took over the family’s 1½ hectares of vineyard about twenty years ago and his son, Pierre has been gradually eased into the front line and now runs the show. Classic Sancerre: firmly structured and richly aromatic, it is generous and fruity in character, with a fine tangy blackcurrant leaf character. 5 Domaine des Gerbeaux Mâcon-Solutré A true Burgundian; 100% Chardonnay. A rich and complex wine with aromas of white and exotic fruits; on the palate, it is round and silky, mineral, with a smooth persistent finish but a hint of warm butteriness. 6 Domaine la Motte Chablis premier cru Vauligneau Grown in a defined area within the Chablis confines, a wine of great stature. Rich and rounded with hints of grilled almonds and toasted oak. 7 Forge Cellars Finger Lakes Riesling From New York State comes this exceptional wine. Ripe aromas of talc, chalk, slate, quince together with fleshy flavours of golden apples. The combination of grapes from two vineyards gives this wine great complexity and intensity. 8 Sandford Estate Viognier What a fab wine! The lightness of the colour conceals the rich & intense fruit that’s about to materialise on your tongue - this is a full-on, deep, creamy textured Viognier with ripe tropical fruits, tons of apricots and lychees. Light enough to be drunk on its own as an aperitif, this wine has enough weight to take fish, poultry and substantial salads in its stride. 9 Domaine La Croix Gratiot Picpoul de Pinet Bright yellow in colour with vibrant citrus, pear and spice notes on the nose. The palate is full but extremely well balanced, with fresh Picpoul acidity and pure fruit flavours. The finish is long and mouthwatering, with complexity of stone fruit, spice and minerality. 10 Little James’ Basket Press Viognier Sauvignon Blanc Jonathan & Jackie discovered this wine whilst visiting the owner in France. A fresh, aromatic white from the Languedoc, with the flavours of lemon peel, tangerine, watermelon and peach. Wonderfully drinkable and tremendous value. 11 Conundrum Quite simply an extraordinary wine. As rare as hen’s teeth, Jonathan discovered this wine at a dinner party and tracked down the only UK importer. This Californian beauty lures you in with scents of apricot, pear and honeysuckle, and if you’re paying attention, orange and lemon meringue pie. Initial sweetness is balanced by natural acidity, and we love the hint of oak that plays with flavours of peach, apple and citrus. The long finish will leave you longing for another glass. 12 Ribbonwood Sauvignon Blanc Fabulous example of Marlborough Sauvignon. An engaging nose, with a hint of ripe citrus notes underlying a fresh herbal bouquet. On the palate, ripe gooseberry and herbal flavours complement classical capsicum and stony mineral tones. Supple and satisfying, the wine is balanced by a fine acid backbone.

Rose

20 Izadi Rioja Rosado `Larrosa` Pale salmon colour. This wine has aromas of strawberry, raspberry and red cherries, alongside notes of white peach and pear. The finish is long and very elegant.

Reds

24 Bellefontaine Cabernet Sauvignon Quite simply a damned good bottle of red. Juicy blackcurrants with a leafy, green herb jacket. 25 Căluşari, Pinot Noir The Căluşari were apparently a Romanian secret society who were known for their ability to create the impression of flying through the air; apparently this could cure the victims of fairies! Anyway, this Pinot is a fantastic little number that we absolutely love; velvety smooth and delicately balanced, tobacco and black cherry on the nose promises the shape of things to come, juicy berries and a depth hard to beat in this price range. A lovely smooth long finish that could almost cure the victims of fairies… 26 `Les Graves de Mahon-Laville` A deep purple claret that offers concentrated plum and spice from the Merlot, alongside minerality that is typical of this region. A powerful but smooth palate, with the Cabernet Sauvignon adding firm tannins and fine structure to the finish. 27 Chateau St Cosme Gigondas Winemaker, Louis Barruol’s family have owned the estate for generations and he has become widely regarded as one of the leading winemakers on the planet. Flavours of blackberries are accompanied by hints of mint, lavender and black pepper. 28 Chateau La Croix Bonneau Montagne Saint-Émilion Cuvée Prestige This is a truly outstanding example of quality Bordeaux. Deep ruby red. The intense bouquet is full of red fruit aromas. The characterful palate has fine, silky tannins, ripe berry flavours and a savoury edge. 29 Vallet Freres Beaune Premier Cru Burgundy with a capital B. Pure Pinot Noir that has the typical vegetal aromas and a dollop of game to boot. The subtle acidity of redcurrants balances the wine beautifully. 30 Ceppi Storici Barbera d’Asti Warm, spicy aromas of blueberries and plums, with subtle, smoky notes. The palate is rich and generous with juicy cherry and more plum fruit, and meaty, spicy notes beneath. 31 Chateau des Sarrins Cotes de Provence Rouge Champagne maker Bruno Paillard bought this little Provencal vineyard in 1995. On the nose, a bouquet of rosemary, thyme, resin and spices. Then come aromas of dark fruit and chocolate, evolving toward smoky and “eau de vie” notes. 32 Alianca Bairrada Reserva Famous for Port, Portugal has an abundance of really good quality red wines. This hearty and rustic red from the Bairrada region is full of soft plummy fruit with a warming earthiness to finish. 33 Cachapoal Andes Merlot, Sanama Reserva Chile has become synonymous with Merlot production, and with good reason. This wine shows Red fruits, prunes and vanilla notes. Fruity, smooth and round tannins, with a soft ending. 34 Verum Cabernet Franc The biggest Welsh community outside of Wales - Patagonia. The region is at the southern end of Argentina and produces some magnificent wines. Cabernet Franc is a particular success; deep and dark with blackberries in abundance. Judicious oak ageing gives wonderful maturity and elegance. 35 Chateau Ka Source Rouge The history of Lebanon is brutal and aggressive, thankfully in all that mayhem winemakers flourish. A wine reminiscent of Bordeaux but with a slightly weightier style. Dark fruit, leafy tannins and ironically a hint of gunsmoke. 36 Hush Heath Manor Pinot Noir Simply Stunning! From Kent, ‘The Garden of England’ comes this truly amazing wine. Wonderfully light and fresh, ripe red berry and redcurrant flavours support a touch of spicy pepperiness. Be warned though, it is dangerously drinkable!
