At the same time it was close to good schools and to bus and train links, which enabled the girls to be independent for transport.” “We knocked down the original detached garage and extended the house by about a third to create a double integral garage, a rear office, a side entrance porch and two first floor bedrooms, including the new master bedroom, which has an en-suite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe,” explains Ray. “At the same time, the whole house was refurbished with a re-slated roof, new plumbing, electrics, plastering and so on. The side porch allows separate independent access, so it’s also possible to create an annexe, incorporating the ground floor bathroom.” “The main lounge is a very sunny, bright room with windows on three sides, including south facing French doors, which lead out onto the lawns,” continues Chris. “The garden wraps around the house and has various seating areas, so you can follow the sun. It is very private and is much-used for family parties and barbeques. The trees encircle the garden and we often see the red squirrels from the National Trust nature reserve.” “Freshfield has been a wonderful place to live,” conclude Ray and Chris. “While having every amenity, including retail, sports, schools and transport, it also has easy access to the pine forests, sand dunes and beaches – we will miss everything about it, including our fantastic, overly large family home. However, now the family has scattered, we need to downsize and relocate to be more conveniently placed for them.”
