Creating A New Project•To create a new project, select File > New Project
•Make sure the TASKS button is clicked so you can use the task pane.
Supported formats for importing content:
Video files: .asf, .avi, .wmv Movie files: MPEG1, .mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .mp2 Audio files: .wav, .snd, .au, .aif, .aifc, .aiff Windows Media files: .asf, .wm, .wma, .wmv Still images: .bmp, .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe, .jfif, .gif MP3 format audio: .mp3
Files that play in windows Media Player are not guaranteed to be imported into Windows Movie Maker
To convert the video from the Canon camera, use Free HD Converter 1.2 by Koyote Soft from http://download.cnet.com
Project files must stay with your MovieMaker project file at all times! (Without your original project files, your MovieMaker project file will be a useless set of editing instructions!)
Preparing Your Files

Preparing for ImportFiles already on digital media (CDs, USB drives, network
storage, etc.) For most digital cameras, video will be stored via a memory
card. If your video is stored on a digital camcorder using DV or similar tapes, please see the Appendix in this PowerPoint (towards the end).
For memory-card storage cameras, you need to transfer your movie files to your designated storage location for your project files (e.g. USB drive or Network Storage “web folder” drive)
Importing Pictures
Click on the Capture Video link to open the list of
options.
Click on Import pictures and locate the folder
containing your pictures.
Select the picture files you wish to import.
Importing Video
Click on the Capture Video link to open the list of
options.
Click on Import video and locate the folder
containing your video files.
Check the box to Create clips for video files.
Trimming Video Clips
Select the clip you want to trim. Then click the Play button on the Preview Monitor.
Let the clip play until it gets to the point where you want to trim it. Click Split Clip button. This cuts your clip into two.
Trimming Video Clips
Delete the portion of of the clip you no longer need by right-clicking it and the clicking Delete.
IAdding Your Video Clips and Images to the Storyboard
Drag the video clip or image icon from the Collections window to the desired
location in the storyboard.
If you need to change order, simply click on the clip and drag it to a the new position
in the storyboard
Note: If you wish to place the clip/image in a location that
already contains another object, simply drag the
imported clip/image just before the other object on the
storyboard.
Transitions Between Clips or Images
In the Movie Tasks section, click on the Edit Movie drop-down arrow.
Then, select View Video Transitions.
1Click the Play button on the Preview screen to view the transitions.
Drag your chosen transition to the Storyboard between the two pictures.

Adding Video Effects
A video effect applies to the picture itself rather than change as a
transition.
• Choose the View video effects under the Edit Movie section
•Drag the chosen effect to the star in the lower left corner of the picture.
•Preview your movie to see the effects.
Adding Music and Sounds
Under the Capture Video link, choose
Import audio or music.
Locate the folder containing your audio
file.
Select the audio file you wish to import.
You can create your own narration by selecting the microphone icon
located in the Timeline Pane.
Editing Music and Sounds
Note : You may choose to start the music at any time in your movie. The music clip does not have to be placed at the beginning.
Adding Titles and Credits
Under the Edit Movie section, choose Make titles or credits.
Choose where to place your title and credits.
Enter your movie title and/or credits. Note: You can change how the titles appear and the font and colors by selecting the other options.
Go to File and select Save Movie File
Select the option to save to My Computer.
Choose a location to save on your computer.
Select the best quality playback option.
Once the video file has bee exported, go to YouTube.com and upload the file.

Importing From a Digital Camcorder
Open the Windows MovieMaker application.
Look on the left sidebar under Movie Making Tips
Click “How to Capture Video”

Unsupported Media Cont.If your media is unsupported, you can convert to a
supported format using free tools such as MediaCoder http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net (difficult to learn but well worth it in the long run) or the online media transcoder MediaConvert http://media-convert.com/ (recommended for most cases).
