One OpenWindow to connect through the language of art and bloom the flowers of diversity

for the youth of every culture in the world,

Page 4: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

We are a global platform of collaborative creativity connecting youth around the world through art and new media.

Page 5: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Our goalis to manifest

the power of creativity

as a source of progress and mutual

understanding between peoples

Page 6: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Whichever country you come

from, if you take a look at the world you will

perceive that it´s full of conflicts,

divisions, disagreements…Through that little

window, other human realities seem dangerous or

distant, usually even perceived as wrong;

making us feel, not only

comfortable in our created distance,

but even indifferent towards the need of getting to know each other.

The media are not exactly a sterile form of expression; they transmit political, economic and religious d i s c o u r s e . . . m e r e sketches we use to draw up our image of others. Based on this skewed view, we reinforce our identity against the values of other cultures. This has created numerous conflicts over time...mostly due to prejudice based on ignorance.

Page 7: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Seeking a common communication system for

all cultures and peoples…A language with limitless possibilities of

expression, open, which admires difference.

A language whose calligraphy is creativity and whose discourse is

collaboration. A universal and cross cutting language. ....we come across

the language of artWithout a doubt, art has also created controversy and has served to praise certain ideologies. Art, seen from this

perspective, could seem similar to any other language created by human beings. However, it possess qualities

which make it unique and infinitely diverse at the same time.

Page 8: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Art reconciles Art is capable of connecting people divided by different ways of interpreting the world. A deeply committed muslim businessman can drive his car listening to musical compositions of a famous jazz musician of catholic origin. An austrian ultra conservative politician may be moved by the poetry of a latin american homosexual republican.

Page 9: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Art liberatesIt is a means of escape by which dozens of situations are expressed that are not so easily verbalized due to the religion to which one belongs, the education one has received, the colour of one´s skin, etc. Art is able to bring up difficulties from a less dogmatic perspective, open to dialogue, more irreverent, it it frees yourself.

Page 10: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Art connectsArt is a language that does not require previous agreement to convey an implicit message to the receiver. It´s a constant reinterpretation of reality through channels of expression that go beyond verbal communication so as to penetrate into intersubjective consciousness, a quality that makes feel we are part of interconnected whole.

Page 11: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Art brings together Art is more diverse than any other language on this planet: It´s subdivided into uncountable tendencies and channels of expression in a process of continuous growth. At the same time it’s a catalyst for change that favours the convergence of cultures and societies from a more conciliatory perspective; stimulating a common space where humanity can sit together in a circle and value all that brings us together in this diversity.

Page 12: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Art is universalWe all understand and can express ourselves through art. All of us. Even tribes that are cut off from this globalised world have rich systems of artistic expression. It´s universal nature is not granted by the mere fact that it´s present in all cultures, but by the fact that art is a good traveller: even someone diametrically opposed - geographically and culturally - can interpret something you have created.

CollaborativeCreativity

Page 17: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

In Window to Diversity, the creative process stems from the contact between different types of people and cultures; this allows for the creative process to be a joint journey:

You sketch a line on a canvass, I sketch the next one; you compose a song, I give it an image...It´s an exchange of imaginary and sensitivity through which we all flow freely, contributing all our imagination to the path.

Page 18: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

We believe that the strongest force of evolution is cooperation. It´s the sum that multiplies. Together we are capable of generating ideas and concepts that we would not know how to develop individually. In collaboration we form ideas that better serve the group and we get improved results. Collaboration creates collective knowledge and swarm intelligence: we are able to interact and self-manage the whole creative process in a horizontal manner, even develop complex ideas that benefit the group...without anyone commanding or imposing their idea o the rest.

Learning to live togetherThe measurable result of this experience is a creation, which develops a discourse throughout the process in the form of proposal, which combines and summarizes various ways of seeing the world in one concept. A clear intangible result is the value of diversity which arises in each participant; both through the encounter with other sociocultural groups of their own country whom they live with on a daily basis, and through the experience of collaborating with young people from distant cultural models. Creating and collaborating we learn the positive values of other cultures and we start a dialogue which lays the foundation for mutual respect and coexistence.

Page 19: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Our approach goes beyond supporting young artists…

We stimulate creativity and collaboration between young people from different cultures because we consider them to be two values that, beyond art itself, may be used in all spheres of learning for life, professional development and intercultural consciousness. We believe that all necessary solutions for the future good of our planet will have a common characteristic: they will be creative solutions based on collaboration. That is why we cultivate a critical mind and divergent thinking in young people, so that they have the opportunity to provide innovative ideas against the challenges of our time in a peaceful, caring and conscious way…

We call it collaborative creativity

Page 20: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Creativity travels from one hemisphere of the brain to the other, from one person to another,

from one culture to another.

Likewise all our creative experiences follow collaborative

methodologies which evolve through three levels of interrelation.

Page 21: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Level 1 Interpersonal Collaboration We2Di team facilitates an experience of collaborative creativity with young people from the same geographical area. They make up a group of “ventaner@s”. During the experience they offer continuity to collaborative creations and/or propose new ones in the network. The intention is to create groups that are representative of the diversity present in their community and neighbourly intercultural relations are developed.

Page 22: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Level 2transculturalcolaborationThese are proposals of collaborative creations that arise from some groups of “ventaner@s” in the world. VEDI supports them encouraging the dialogue between distant groups that produce mutual exchange of cultural imaginary. Thanks to this initial facilitation, the groups of young people adopt a proactive role so that the evolution of the creative collaboration experience is co-constructed by the groups themselves.

Page 23: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Level 3Swarm collaboration Users of the web platform use We2Di contents, whichare always available as an open source, for their own creation s, workshops and initiatives. Through the access routes to these materials, the users connect with the diverse cultural participants through their tour of exploration, transformation and collaboration regarding the contents they use; creating collaborative intelligence.

Page 24: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

We have facilitated creative collaborative experiences and seminars directed towards cultural cooperation professionals in more than 20 locations in 12 states of 3 different continents. Hundreds of young people from dozens of cultural origins have created multimedia projects that are freely available on the internet. This demonstrates the interest in the educational and creative proposal of the project and it motivates us to continue spreading pro cultural diversity values to promote Peace Culture in our global and interconnected society.

A window symbolizes the limit between public and private spheres; it represents the spot where we look outwards to our neighbourhood and, likewise, our portion of private space exposed to the public. In contexts where different cultural communities share the same space, a window also represents how the other sees a community, as well as the viewpoint from which their members look outwards to see the world around.

Page 29: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Open your Window was our first collaborative creativity experience ever developed... and yet it remains fresh as day one. Composed by 3 workshops, youth from different cultures has created a vast array of video art.Inter-connected documentary films -in a question-answer fashion- that talks about similar topics happening in different locations; expanded poetry that interprets visually the same poem according to different cultural imaginaries; animation gadjet build with materials available y every community... hundreds of youngsters and kids, dozens of cultures, one experience.

Page 30: WINDOW TO DIVERSITY

Window to Bi0diversityWe believe that connecting cultural imaginary and natural environment with creativity and collaboration... Our mind will open to a greater awareness of our place in the planet. This experience is precisely that: a way to engage people living in ecologically rich and culturally diverse contexts, that have developed a balanced way of preserving their biodiversity, in a collaborative experience to share their imagineries, their learnings... and find solutions to common threats. All this, while having fun creating amazing video and photo creations.

Entrepreneurs 4 DiversityEntrepreneurs for Diversity (E4D) manifests a creative possibility for youth. We follow an intercultural innovation approach to engage young entrepreneurs from diverse cultural origins into developing ICT-based creative economy startups. The real turning point while designing ExD was finding the right strategy to incentivate intercultural innovation within the framework of cultural entrepreneurism. In this sense, ExD uses a breakthrough new approach: adapt the way artist thinks and behaves during their creative process to create high value business ideas in the ICT-based cultural sector.
