INTRODUCTION
• kinetic energy of a moving wind is converted into mechanical energy
• Can be use for power genertion, pump
• Windmills were used in Persia(200 B.C)
• first electricity-generating wind turbine (July 1887 by James Blyth)
• Enercon E-126 is largest (7.5m)

EFFICIENCY
• air would be cant be completely still behind rotor• Theoretical limit of rotor efficiency is 59%• Most modern wind turbines are 35 – 45%

POWER GENERATION
![Page 6: Wind turbine](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062405/557da9bcd8b42a642d8b52e3/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
POWER GENERATION
![Page 7: Wind turbine](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062405/557da9bcd8b42a642d8b52e3/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
BLADES DESIGN
• Drag Design– the wind literally pushes the
blades out of the way– slower rotational speeds ,high
torque• Lift Design– pressure differential is created
between blade()– higher rotational speeds
![Page 8: Wind turbine](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062405/557da9bcd8b42a642d8b52e3/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
TYPES• Horizontal axis–rotor shaft and electrical generator at the top of a tower–usually three-bladed(why?) and pointed into the wind by computer-controlled motors. –high efficiency, and low torque ripple, which contribute to good reliability–Requires a relatively high wind speed
![Page 9: Wind turbine](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062405/557da9bcd8b42a642d8b52e3/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
cont• Vertical axis –main rotor shaft arranged
vertically– turbine does not need to be
pointed into the wind – low wind speed and –Lower Vibration and sound
levels –Height of instillation should
be low from ground and can be use for low power generation only
![Page 10: Wind turbine](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062405/557da9bcd8b42a642d8b52e3/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
• HAWT
• VAWT
![Page 11: Wind turbine](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062405/557da9bcd8b42a642d8b52e3/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
HAWT VS VAWT• COEFFICIENT OF WIND POWER
USE• COST• MAINTAINABILITY• DIRECTIONALITY• RELIABILITY• DESIGN OF BLADE• HEIGHT OF INSTALLATION• ECOLOGICAL ISSUES

CONCLUSION
• VAWT best for Nepal
