The advantages of floating wind turbine solutions are many: they provide access to higher quality wind resources, they can be installed in deep water with varied underwater landscape, and they can be sited far enough offshore to mollify aesthetic concerns. PP’s WindFloat design is based on well established and fully commercialized offshore oil & gas semi-submersible platform technology.

WindFloat is a floating support structure for offshore wind turbines with a simple, economic and patented design. There are three advantages to the WindFloat foundation:

1. Static and dynamic stability provides sufficiently low pitch performance enabling use of commercial offshore wind turbines;

2. Design and size allow for onshore assembly;

3. Shallow draft allows for depth independent siting and wet tow (fully assembled and commissioned) to sites not visible from shore.

Much of the European and US coastlines are too deep for bottom-fixed installations, thereby creating the need for a viable floating offshore wind solution. The WindFloat addresses high energy demands, cost limitations, and aesthetic concerns by siting economically viable power projects in transitional and deep-water sites (40-100 meter, and >100 meter depths, respectively) that maximize energy production and are virtually invisible from shore.
