Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band Saxophone Audition Music

Fall 2019

All saxophonists who would like to audition for Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band should prepare the attached excerpt.

All music majors and minors are required to prepare this material.

There is just 1 excerpt required for this audition round – the first three pages of the Alto Saxophone 1 part from Zhou Tian’s Petals of Fire. It is a difficult excerpt, but well worth the effort of learning! I highly recommend listening often to the music. Be sure to observe all printed tempo markings, dynamics, rests, and articulations. You are highly encouraged to seek out other quality recordings in order to understand how the excerpt fits into the piece as a whole, and to gain stylistic knowledge about the piece. Be sure to start preparing well in advance of the audition. Record yourself often! If you are auditioning on tenor or baritone, you may also use these excerpts.
