In 1967 Ralph Ward and Bud Williams opened a discount warehouse named Waremart in Boise, ID
Their goal was to provide a very large selection at a very low price
Waremart was considered a partnership

In 1999 changed name to WinCo Foods Inc.
In 1985 the WinCo Foods Employee Stock Ownership Trust purchased majority interest from Ward family

Open door policy- All employees have an opportunity for their voice to be heard and valued.
Goals within each department- Every month managers create individual and store goals
Motivation- WinCo belives in rewarding their employees, every eligible employee receives company stock with zero out of pocket expense on their part.
Opportunity- WinCo promotes from within the company. For example, many of their managers and corporate personnel started doing carts, maintenance or other entry-level positions and were
recognized for their dedication.

within the company to ensure quality and care.
