A high quality fully vitrified unglazed ceramic formed byvacum dust-pressed firing incorporating through bodycolouration giving a very dense, low porosity, matte tile.These tesserae are extremely hard wearing, frost proofand slip resistant, suitable for interior and exterior appli-cations for floors and walls. I have used this tile in many large scale commissions forover twenty years including most of my floor mosaics.The tile can be used in many different styles of mosaicmaking from classical to contemporary. I have even usedit fixed on its side to expose the cut edge, in combinationwith glass and other tesserae and on three dimensionalstructures.

Range and Classification StandardsFloors of premises are classified in terms of the increasinglevels of resistance and durability to the loads they carryand ability to withstand wear and tear due to:Surface abrasion; damage from static or moving loads;water used for cleaning or from “normal use”; products orchemicals which are corrosive or may stain.Tiles are tested in order to determine their resistance tothese factors and are classified in line with NF (FrenchNorms) standards.Winckelmans mosaic tiles conform to the NFP 61-405standards (class B1 of the European EN176 standards).They comply with classifications U4, P3, E3 and C2.Test Results show WInckelmans ceramic tilesexceed the required industry standards.

These tiles are durable, resistant and easily maintained.They are resistant to scratches from standing stock andmachinery passing over them. Winkelmans tiles will main-tain their original colour for many years. With near zeroporosity they can be used in all conditions, inside andout, on floors or walls and are equally suitable for dry andhumid atmospheres.

DimensionsThese tiles come in the standard 20mm x 20mm x3.8mm (0,79" x 0,79" x 0,15") and some other sizes.

Colour PaletteThe Winckelmans range come in a beautifully harmo-nious palette of 29 single earth based colours, and 15speckled colours which ideally compliment buildingmaterials such as brick, sett paving and pigmented ren-ders.

Slip ResistanceIn addition to the manufacturers information above, GaryDrostle has commissioned slip resistance testing of madeup cut mosaic panels from two independant testing cen-tres. A summary of the results are shown in the tableopposite. Full results are available on request.
