“Here and Now” ProgramGLENS FALLS – The Hyde Collection Art Museum and Historic House was re-cently awarded $2,500 in funding for developing “Here and Now”, a programthat will engage individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or stroke related chal-lenges and their caregivers. Inspired by the Museum of Modern Art’s Alzheimer’sProject, MeetMe at MOMA, this program provides opportunities for conversa-tions that do not rely on short term memory, creates a social outlet, and inspiresnew connections. Whether living at home, in assisted living, or nursing home fa-cilities, individuals or groups are invited to visit the museum with a caregiver toenjoy seeing and discussing art. A museum educator will guide an open-endeddiscussion of various works of art, with time for quiet reflection and questions.The public is invited to a reception being held on Thursday, May 10 from 5:30-7:30pm at The Hyde Collection, 161 Warren Street, Glens Falls, New York. CREDIT UNION YOUTH WEEK WITH CONTESTS
April 13, 2012 (Corinth, NY): In a continuing eff ort to educate young people about money matters, Hudson River Community Credit Union (HRCCU) will celebrate Credit Union Youth Week, April 23 - 28, 2012. Th is year’s theme is “Be A Credit Union SuperSaver”. To celebrate, HRCCU has announced three innovative contests to spark the cre-ativity of local youth as well as encourage them to save money for a better future. Th e month-long contests include: • A coloring gallery for youth ages 2 - 5. Entrants will color a page to be displayed in the branches. Each child that participates will receive a special prize. • In the Poster Contest, entrants (ages 6 - 12), are asked to create a poster show-ing other kids how to “Be a A Credit Union SuperSaver”. Th e winning entrant will receive a Flip video camera and their poster will be used to promote HRCCU’s School Banking Program. • Th e YouTube Video Contest asks entrants (ages 13 - 25) to create a short video telling others how to “Be a Credit Union SuperSaver”. Videos will be posted to YouTube where friends and family can vote for the best video. Th e winning entrant will receive a SONY® Playstation Vita game system. In addition, HRCCU is participating in the National Youth Savings Challenge. Th e Challenge promotes savings among children, as well as the opportunity for children to win $100. He has ac-cepted a position with International Fine Art Expositions inFlorida, as Managing Executive directing international art fairsin Palm Beach and Miami.The museum is located at 161 Warren Street in Glens Falls,where it was founded in 1963 in the historic American Renais-sance mansion of Charlotte Pruyn Hyde and Louis Fiske Hyde.Mrs. Hyde was the daughter of the co-founder of the FinchPaper mill in Glens Falls. Hyde House, as the residence isknown, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Make the First Five Years Count: What Parents Should Know(NAPSI)—The first five years of life are the years of learning that shape kids’ futures. Yet everyyear, more than 1 million children with unidentified delays and disabilities enter school withlearning and health issues that put them far behind their peers.According to the National Survey of Children’s Health, one in five households with children hasa child with a special health care need and could benefit from screening and services, yet lessthan 20 percent of children under the age of 5 receive a developmental screening.While every child develops at his or her own pace, there are some milestones parents should beaware of. Easter Seals, through the generous support of the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust,offers parents free access to an online screening tool to help parents monitor their child’s devel-opmental milestones. Widely used with parents by health care providers, preschool programs andearly childhood professionals, Brookes Publishing’s Ages & Stages Questionnaires® can now beeasily completed by parents at www.MakeTheFirstFiveCount.org.
Here are a few of the milestones included in the screening tool:
Birth to 1 year• At 2 months, does your baby smile when you talk to her? Does your baby roll from his back tohis tummy at 8 months?• When holding a small toy in each hand, does your baby clap the toys together (like ‘Pat-a-cake’)at 12 months?
1 to 2 years• At 14 months, does your baby take several steps without tripping or falling?• Does your child help turn the pages of a book at 16 months?• When you ask your child to point to her nose, eyes, hair, feet, ears and so forth, does she correctlypoint to at least seven body parts?
2 to 3 years• Does your child run fairly well, stopping herself without bumping into things or falling? Doesyour child put on a coat, jacket or shirt by himself?• When drawing, does your child hold a pencil, crayon or pen between her fingers and thumb likean adult does?
3 to 4 years• Can your child cut paper with child-safe scissors? If you place five objects in front of your child,can he count them by saying, “one, two, three, four, five,” in order?
