William Woeltjen Appointed SMH Chief Financial Officer
SARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 10, 2010) – Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is
pleased to announce the appointment of William Woeltjen to the position of Chief
Financial Officer, effective immediately. Woeltjen, who previously served as
Sarasota Memorial’s treasurer, has been serving as the interim CFO since July 2010,
when Sarasota Memorial’s former CFO David Verinder was appointed Chief
Operating Officer.
"Bill has demonstrated a phenomenal ability to manage our bottom line, despite a challenging
economic climate for health care,” Sarasota Memorial CEO Gwen MacKenzie said of the executive
team’s decision to make the appointment permanent. “His depth of knowledge and experience with
budget forecasting and project financing will be of particular importance in the months and years ahead
as we build our new bed tower and strive to provide the best medical technology and care to our
community.”
As CFO, Woeltjen is responsible for all financial matters related to the health care system, including
financial reporting, financial planning, revenue cycle, reimbursement, debt management and managed
care contracting. He has more than 20 years’ experience in corporate health care finance. Before
joining Sarasota Memorial’s Finance Department in 2007, Woeltjen, a Certified Public Accountant,
served as corporate treasurer and as corporate chief financial officer for University Community Health
in Tampa. He has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management from Tulane University and a
bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a master’s in Business Administration from the University of
South Florida.
