…things are pretty much even on both
sides UNTIL…
…Cassius gets some BAD
information & makes a BAD
decision…
Cassius sees soldiers swarming through his own army’s camp. Unable to discern whether or not they are enemy soldiers, Cassius sends Titinius, a trusted soldier and friend,
to investigate …

to investigate …
As Cassius’ slave, Pindarus, watches Titinius cross the
battlefield, he mistakenly reports that Titinius has been surrounded
by enemy troops. Cassius assumes that Brutus’ soldiers are
defeated & ALL IS LOST.
Since Cassius refuses to be
taken alive, he asks Pindarus to
kill him.
…BUT THEN…
…Titinius returns & explains that the
soldiers surrounding him were actually Brutus’ cheering
soldiers who had just defeated Octavius.
…Titinius is so upset about Cassius’ death that he kills himself
with Cassius’ sword.
…Brutus holds a funeral for Cassius outside of camp
because he does not want to discourage his soldiers
before they fight the second battle …

Brutus’ soldier, CATO,
charges into battle and is
killed…
LUCILIUS also charges into battle shouting that HE is Brutus.
Lucilius wants to act as a decoy in order to protect Brutus.
Lucilius is captured, but
Antony spares his life because he showed great bravery in battle & tremendous
loyalty to Brutus.
When Brutus realizes that his forces are completely defeated, he also refuses
to be taken alive.
He asks his men to help him to commit suicide…
Only STRATO agrees to assist. Brutus then impales himself on the
sword that Strato holds for him.
Antony calls BrutusAntony calls Brutusthe noblest Roman the noblest Roman
of them allof them all..
Octavius promises an honorable funeral for
Brutus & vows that Brutus will be remembered &
praised in Rome.
