William H. Lewis (18994982f)

William H. Lewis, who served as president of the Southern Society of Orthodontists in 1951, died Feb- ruary 24 in Port Charlotte: Florida, and was interred in Petersburg, Virginia, where he had practiced until his retirement in 1970.

A native of Atkinson, North Carolina, Dr. Lewis had served with the United States Army in World War I. He graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

While in active practice, he had served as president of the Southern Dental Society (to which he was elected to active membership in 1929), the Virginia Dental Society, and the Petersburg Country Club.

Curtis R. Russ (1911-1982)

Curtis R. Russ died on April 14, 1982, in Jackson, Mississippi.

A native of Gulfport, Mississippi, he earned his D.D.S. degree in 1934 at Atlanta Southern Dental Col- lege, now Emory University Dental School. He entered practice that same year in Jackson.

In 1947, he completed the advanced program in orthodontics at Columbia University and was elected to active membership in the Southern Society of Orth- odontics in 1950, having been an associate member for 2 years.

ment and had served there as a member of the Punta Gorda Masonic Lodge, having attained the thirty-third degree as a Shriner. Also, in Port Charlotte he was a member of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club, the Punta Gorda Boat Club, the Kingsway Country Club, the Chatterbox Club, and the First Presbyterian Church. He had served as president of Health Plus.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Carter Lewis; two stepsons, Roy M. Carter and Walter E. Carter; a daughter, Mrs. Anne Dye; two brothers, Matt P. Lewis and Millard Lewis; three sisters, Mrs. Clyde Payne, Mrs. Blanche Pelot, and Mrs. Carrie L. Smith; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He served in World War II. Dr. Russ was a member of the Jackson Central

Lions Club and was a steward at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Weston of Jackson, Mississippi, and Mrs. Mary Glen Conklin of Springdale, Arkansas.
