Dear WILDshorts Filmistos!

What qualifies you as a filmisto? The very fact that

you have joined us here today for what we hope will be the

most inspiring, unexpected, genre crossing tribute to your

sense of wilderness — whether it’s from inside your imagi-

nation or a journey into the farthest reaches of the planet.

We have had an absolute blast curating these adven-

tures for you. Learned a lot in the process, not least of

which being that there is an astounding range of creativity,

talent and storytelling out there for interpreting and sharing

our wild world. As fellow filmmakers, we certainly found a

lot to inspire and aspire to.

So pick a spot, settle in and let your imagination roam

free through some truly wild adventures. As you’ll see, you

never know where it can take you.

Pool Monique, socia y fundadora del “Green Heritage Fund Suriname”, se encuentra a sí

misma en una situación critica después de que un área de bosque en Paramaribo,

“Suriname”, es cortado. Monique rescató a más de 200 animales, principalmente perezosos,

e hizo de su casa un refugio de emergencia.

Sólo hay alrededor de 180 osos pardos ibéricos que viven en las montañas del

Norte de España. La población está fragmentada en dos, separados unos de otros durante

los últimos 50 años. Su supervivencia depende de los corredores naturales que conectan a

la población más pequeña, del este de la Cordillera Cantábrica, con la subpoblación más

grande en la zona oeste.

VALHALLA es es la historia de un hombre en la búsqueda de redescubrir la libertad de su

juventud. Más allá de los deportes de acción, el estilo y estructura de Valhalla, muestra un

Northern Spain. Their survival depends on the natural corridors

that connect the smallest population in the east of the Cantabrian

Mountains with the larger subpopulation in the west area.

Monique Poole’s Sloth Sanctuary Conservation

Monique Pool finds herself "slothified" after an area of forest in

Paramaribo, Suriname, is cut down. Monique rescued more than

200 animals, mostly sloths, and brought them to an emergency

shelter, which also happens to be her home.

When a skiing accident left Greg Mallory paralyzed from the waist

down, he turned to kayaking to help him escape his wheelchair.

This film journeys underwater on to a spectacular reef in French

Polynesia. Among the corals we find creatures of many shapes

and sizes, some of them are feeding on the coral, some are hiding

in it, and some of them are swimming above it, but all of them are

dependent on this intact ocean wilderness for survival.

Cheetahs on the Edge National Geographic (07:07)

Cheetahs are the fastest runners on the planet. Filming at 1200

frames per second while zooming beside a sprinting cheetah, the

team captured every nuance of the cat’s movement as it reached

top speeds of 60+ miles per hour.

A World Made of Coral Living Oceans Foundation

(02:55)

iLCP photographer Michele Westmorland joined the crew of the

M/Y Golden Shadow to document a coral reef research expedi-

tion in the Gambier Islands of French Polynesia. One of the

most extensive assessments of French Polynesia reef systems

ever undertaken. Their findings will assist reef protection.

Snakes in a Cave Day’s Edge Productions (03:00)

Biologists Dr. Neil Losin and Dr. Nate Dappen visit a Puerto Rican

cave reputed to be the home of 300,000 bats…and a boa constric-

tor that hunts them.

Mexicano vs. la Selva Fernando Velez (12:00)

After a trip to the Congo, Fernando and his childhood friend, Vic-

tor, are on a mission to create a survival kit for the planet. In this

chapter, meet Bantu, a gorilla whose species is endangered by a

mineral called Coltan, and Salvador Dodger Montaño, a Mexican

mixed martial artist (MMA), as they teach us about caring for our

environment.

En los parques nacionales de Austria, artistos de sonidos hacen musica orquestal de los

sonidos de naturaleza y enseñan visuales fantásticos de los animales, luegos y cosas

que los hacen.

mit Mt. Everest.

Usando una cámara Phantom, que filma a 1200 fotogramas por segundo, el equipo logro

capturar el sprint del guepardo y cada detalle de sus movimientos que le permiten alcanzar

una velocidad de hasta 60 kilómetros por hora. Las siguientes imágenes son una extraordi-

naria compilación de los sprints de cinco guepardos durante tres días de rodaje.

Dr. Neil Losin y el Dr. Nate Dappen son dos biólogos se visitan una cueva de Puerto Rico que

tiene fama de ser el hogar de 300.000 murciélagos ... y una población saludable de boas que

El fotógrafa, miembro de la iLCP, Michele Westmorland se unió a la tripulación y los científi-

cos de la “M/Y Golden Shadow” para documentar una expedición en la investigación de los

arrecifes de coral de las Islas Gambier de la Polinesia francesa. Esta expedición es una de

Although our national parks belong to all Americans, it’s a sad fact

that very few people of color ever set foot in some of our country’s

most beautiful places. Take a journey to Yosemite National Park

with the Amazing Grace 50+ Club, a Los Angeles-based senior

church group whose members are looking to reverse that trend.

Badru’s Story Benjamin Drummond/Sara Steele (06:00)

Each year Badru Mugerwa sets 60 camera traps in the rugged

forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. Badru

and his fellow TEAM scientists have collected over one million

images of mammals and birds to help guide conservation.

Unicorn Sashimi Felt Soul Media (05:23)

Felt Soul Media teamed up with Nick Waggoner and Yuki Miyazaki

of Sweetgrass Productions in January 2012 to hunt the mythical

Hokkaido Unicorn. The creature proved difficult to capture on film,

so we just decided to do a little skiing.

to único de imágenes de India Salvaje. Este video es un homenaje a los ciudadanos poco

conocidos de la India, que también comparten el mismo himno nacional que nosotros. Jai

Cada año Badru Mugerwa coloca 60 cámaras trampa en los bosques de Bwindi, un parque

nacional impenetrable de Uganda. Badru y sus colegas científicos del equipo han recogido

más de un millón de imágenes de mamíferos y aves, que sirven como guía para ayudar a los

esfuerzos de conservación.

A pesar de nuestros parques nacionales pertenecen a todos los estadounidenses, es una

triste realidad que muy pocas personas de color nunca poner un pie en algunos de los
