Weather Information

Source: Cal OES Daily Situation Report - August 12, 2018RH = Relative Humidity

NORTHERN CALIFORNIANear to slightly above normal temperatures are expected through the weekend. Onshore flow into the weekend is forecast, with locally breezy wind at times. Smoke from wildfires will continue to impact air quality, especially over the Northern Sacramento Valley, with improvementelsewhere. Thunderstorms are possible early this week over the Sierra Crest, mainly south of Highway 50 and across the mountains of Trinity County Tuesday and Wednesday. The character of the thunderstorms are forecast to be on the dry side, prompting fire weather concern for the eastern Sierra; to include portions of Mono and Inyo Counties particularly on Tuesday.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIAHigh temperature will change little through Wednesday, then a warming trend is expected through Saturday. A return of monsoonal moisture and chances for showers and thunderstorms exist Wednesday through Friday. Upper level high pressure strengthens over Southern California next weekend, for another warmup. Winds will be light with the typical afternoon breezes. A better chance of storms looks likely for the middle and end of next week, with cooler temperatures and elevated humidities.

Projected Fire ActivityFire behavior is active and fire growth continues primarily to the south, closer to populated areas. (2)24hrs: Expect continued very active fire behavior with breezy conditions. Live fuels are readily available to contribute to fire intensity and alignment of wind, dry fuels, and topography will promote fire spread. A gradual warming and drying trend is returning. (1)48 hrs: Fire behavior will continue to have surface activity with occasional torching with a gradual warming and drying trend. (1)72hrs: Smoke inversion will begin to build up again, dampening fire behavior. Both dead and live fuel moistures are below critical levels. Fire spread will become primarily fuels-driven surface fire. (1)72+ hrs: Continued active to very active fire behavior (1)Smoke Outlook: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/photos/ORRSF/2018-07-18-1617-Natchez/related_files/pict20180712-094819-0.pdf
