Free Creativity
• Soundcloud allows users to upload remixes of existing songs for free, so other users can listen to them for free. E.g.
• This is due to an option for the uploader to upload their work under the creative commons licence, meaning anyone can use it for their own work, such as remixes and covers.
Democracy
• Youtube practices democracy by allowing any ordinary person to share content. Some people become popular, and some do not.
• Some videos, such as Greyson’s first video, a cover of ‘Paparazzi’, go viral, meaning they get shared around and receive millions of views. This can launch an ordinary person into internet fame.
Thinking GloballyKickstarter allows global users to share projects and donate money to fund them. This can be done from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. For example, this Australian band needs funding for a recording session, and we are able to fund it from the UK through the internet.
Perfect Storm
• A perfect Storm is a service that utilises Web 2.0, has a young
demographic and has economic elements. Spotify allows users to make and share playlists using facebook (web 2.0), has a paid subscription service for £9.99 a month to remove ads and stream in HD (economics) and has a large user base of 60 million active users with 15 million of these paying subscriptions(demographic).
