Short Daily Activities
Handwriting This week I’d like you to practise the diagonal join: le. There is a
worksheet attached to support you but you may choose to use your
handwriting book (if you have any room!). Remember, you might want to
start practising by drawing magic letters in the air, then you could go
outside and paint the letters with water, write with sticks or use chalk,
you could also practise the letters with felt tip crayons or pencils. Try to
do handwriting everyday (even if it to practise other letters), this will
make such difference! These letters don’t have to be joined just try your
best to form the letters correctly.
Try joining: le, el and al
Spelling and
Phonics
This week I would like you to learn words ending in the suffix -es. Here
are some examples: babies, bodies, carries, copies, cries, families,
flies, hobbies, ladies, replies and tries.
Spelling Rule: If I need to add -es, I have to swap the y for an i first.
baby - babies
You will see a username and password in the ‘reading’ box below which will
give you access to RWI Spelling games so you can practise.
Continue to practise phonics as often as possible. I have added a link to
films shown relating to our resources.

Films will show at the times below and
be available for 24 hours.

coloured band so I would urge you to have a look. Apart from this read
ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! This will make all the difference to your
learning and it’s fun!

Number
Bonds and
Times Tables
Practise your number bonds everyday (9 + 1 = 10 so, 19 + 1 = 20 so, 90 + 10 = 100) and your 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
This should be forwards, backwards and in and out of order. Also, remember it is important to know the inverse so
if 2 x 5 = 10, 10 ÷ 5 = 2. If you think you have mastered the 2, 5 and 10 times table start work on the 3 times table.
Dear Elm Class,
Welcome back to the final half term of Year 2! Can you believe how quickly it has gone? This half term we would usually start to
prepare for Key Stage Two and all the excitement (such using the ‘big’ playground) it brings. For now, we shall try and make the
most of home learning and our new topic!
This half term our topic is; ‘Oh I do Like to be Beside the Seaside’. It is an opportunity to learn about what a seaside holiday would
have been like in the past. Hopefully, you’ll also be able to spend lots of time outside during the next couple of weeks making the
most of the sunshine whilst it lasts! On Friday (5th June) we would ordinarily be celebrating World Environment Day and so I have
dedicated Friday to this year’s theme.
Most importantly, stay happy, keep smiling and don’t worry if you’re not able to complete everything. If you do one thing a day, make
sure it is reading! 😊
Continue to email me at: [email protected]
Have a wonderful week!

Day 1
English Mathematics Art
This week we are going to focus on Julia
Donaldson’s The Snail and the Whale. You
can watch the animated version here:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000
cslw
Imagine that you had to write a newspaper
report about the people (and the snail) who
saved the whale. What would it say?
There is a template attached for you. Try
to consider:
• The order of events
• A catchy heading
• Eyewitness accounts.
Please complete Summer Term – Week 5

Seascape to create your own seaside
picture!
Day 2
English Mathematics Science
A rock is described as being 'as black as
soot'. This is a simile. Can you find more in
the story? Can you make up your own
similes, or find others in different books?
A simile compares two different things in
a interesting way, usually using ‘like’ or ‘as’.
Here are some more examples:
As cold as ice.
This dress is perfect because it fits like a
glove.

This half term we start our new topic;
plants. Find out about seed dispersal:

How do plants spread their seeds? You

Then complete the worksheet attached
about how a flying insect helps to support
with seed dispersal.
Day 3
English Mathematics Physical Education
Look at the illustrations and think of
speech/thought bubbles for the animals
shown. I have attached a template but you
may wish to draw your own characters!
Remember to use:
• Capital letters
• Full stops
• A range of sentence types
(exclamation, question, command
and statement)
Please complete Summer Term – Week 5

Day 4
English Mathematics History
The snail 'slithered'. Think of other
words to describe how different
creatures move.
Draw or write a list of other creatures
and describe how they move using verbs
or adverbs.
Remember a verb is an action (or ‘doing’
word). For example: jump, march, hopped
An adverb changes the meaning of the
verb. For example: quietly, slowly, quickly,
carefully
Please complete Summer Term – Week 5

Where is the seaside always located? Can
you complete the seaside sheet attached?
Day 5
World Environment Day
This year, the World Environment Day theme is ‘Time for Nature’. Today I’d like you to take a little bit of time to find out about
the world around us and spend time outside appreciating all of the beautiful nature around us! Here are some ideas to get you
started:
• Earth School has some AMAZING videos which are worth investigating. https://ed.ted.com/earth-school
• Create and go on a spring scavenger hunt. https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2020/01/nature-scavenger-hunts/ or
even a colour scavenger hunt!
• Find natural materials to write your name with.
• Try and paint using a nature paint brush and mud.
• Try to recreate an Andy Goldsworthy picture or create your own!
• Make some salt dough to create your own nature portrait!
• Get green fingered and help out in the garden.
