Introduction

Bandwidth issueThe main disadvantages of microstrip patch antenna are low effeicency, low power and very narrow bandwidth. We can solve these problems by increasing height of substrate but it will introduce surface wave which is not desirable. So the problem is eliminated by modifying the shape of a common radiator patch by incorporating slot(E-shaped,U-shaped)Antenna Design MethodFirst, a rectangular microstrip patch antenna is designed based on the standard design procedure to determine the length (L) and width (W) for resonant frequency fr=5.25Ghz.

The width and length of the microstrip antenna are determine as follows

conclusionAn E-shaped wideband microstrip patch antenna using Air substrate has been designed, simulated, optimized and analyzed using HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) software version 11. A parametric study is presented with the results showing that the antenna can be operated at 5.15 GHz up to 5.82 GHz frequency band. This result is an improvement when compared to the original rectangular patch.References1] Indu Bala Pauria, Sachin Kumar, Sandhya Sharma,Design and Simulation of E-Shape Microstrip Patch Antenna for Wideband ApplicationInternational Journal of Soft Computing and Engineering (IJSCE) ISSN: 2231-2307, Volume-2, Issue-3, July 20122]B.-K.
