Grant and Kerry have lived in the property for the last six months. “We finished the build on the 6th of September 2014, and with the final approval of building control we moved straight in the same day.” Having designed the property themselves, Wickham Lodge is entirely unique as well as eco friendly. “When we designed the property our architect was fantastic as we wanted to ensure that household bills would be minimal. We agreed upon a specification that included a rain water harvesting system for the two toilets, under floor heating, energy efficient lighting and a Valliant Eco friendly combination boiler,” explains Grant, “This coupled with stone window sills and an electric roller shutter door for the double garage makes for an unusual specification for a bungalow.”

The family bathroom is done to an exceptionally high standard. There is a roll top bath with silver decorative feet, large walk in shower with rainwater style shower head with vintage ceramic handles, fitted vanity units, mist free touch less control illuminated mirror and heated towel rail.

“My wife has always loved roll topped baths and I have always loved stone fireplaces,” describes Grant,” The luxury main bathroom is of a size large enough to accommodate a large rainwater style shower and roll top bath, which makes for an unusual bathroom. For me the hand carved stone fire surround was a joy to have commissioned by a local stone mason as the materials came from a local quarry on Fish Hill.”

The two double bedrooms are bright, modern and a good size. The master room has a fabulous modern en-suite with a mist free mirror, good size shower, and heated towel rail along with a fitted vanity unit. The third bedroom is a charming single room.

The property is full of character. ”My wife and I both love the very spacious be-spoke kitchen as it’s finished in a colour called Tewksbury Blue, which has a very real vintage feel to it. Being as we both cook and bake the natural flow of the kitchen and lounge is perfect for our lifestyle.”

The bungalow originally was the rear garden of the large house that fronts the main road. Grant and Kerry decided to name the bungalow Wickham Lodge as it is in keeping with the large house aptly called Wickham House. The larger house was built in 1928 and was built by a commissioned Army officer from the First World War. “The fun thing for us initially,” they continue, “was also trying to match the colour of the double glazing windows, facia/guttering & garage door - a new colour called Irish Oak. We also felt that if we boarded the lofts of the bungalow & garage this would create more storage space. We built the garage with a cavity as per the rest of the bungalow, so should we decide to convert the garage it would comply with building regulations. We also decided to insert a name and date stone in the lounge gable to give the bungalow some identity.”

The bungalow sits on a very level plot with lots of lawned area, whilst views of the church can be seen in the park along with some other land mark buildings. “The gardens are all laid to lawn with a Forest of Dean granite stone chipped pathway that encompasses the whole property. It is a very easy garden to maintain and has parking for three cars on the driveway and a car with both doors open in the garage. There is ample space to create a patio area outside of the kitchen patio doors, something that we had always planned to create but ran out of time. The sun is in the rear garden from sunrise to sunset and makes for a wonderful quite location to relax.”

Wickham Lodge is located down a lane that only serves two other residential properties. The entrance to the property is through a large set of double wooden gates onto a gravel drive with parking for three cars. The sunny garden wraps around the property and is mainly lawn with flower beds, pots and shrubs. There is a garden shed and external power points.
